Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi. How do they calculate how far a player has ran in a 2014 World Cup match? I notice they sometimes flash stats when a player is subbed and it shows how far they've ran.

I often wondered about the stats, they have to be computerised somehow.

For them to tell you a guy made 51 passes and had a success rate of 84%, couldnt have one person clocking that manually, as you'd need 20 people to do full set of outfield players.

Apparently that's what they do. Numerous students are employed to watch games and compile those stats. Saw it on TV or something a while back

Regarding distances, I'm only speculating, but once they have the pitch mapped out, following a players track will easily allow them calculate the distance he has moved. Not sure if that's how they do it, but theoretically it could be done like that

I thought they all had a chip inserted in one of their lower teeth and it was all done via GPS, no?

New FIFA rule since Suarez bite, all pro footballers to be chipped & neutered from now on.

Do they not get a chip in thier left boot? Any more recent boot or running shoe has a spot for a chip.

The keepers really bring down the team average though :)

Nothing as advanced as that I am afraid
Its calculated by a set of 16 cameras up on the roof than cover different sections of the pitch and the data is fed into a computer that maps it all together.
They used to calculate all the stuff manually which was tedious but I guess they have image recognition software now that can calculate the distances and no of passes automatically as it seems to be available in real time.

Adidas have boots that you can put a chip in and it sees how far you ran etc etc. So I imagine Nike and that have it.
