    Garth Brooks
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the performer. For his debut album, see Garth Brooks (album).

Troyal Garth Brooks (born February 7, 1962) is an American country music singer and songwriter. His eponymous first album was released in 1989 and peaked at number 2 in the US country album chart while climbing to number 13 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Brooks' integration of rock elements into his recordings and live performances earned him immense popularity. This progressive approach allowed him to dominate the country single and album charts while crossing over into the mainstream pop arena.[1]

Brooks broke records for both sales and concert attendance throughout the 1990s. As of 2013, his recordings continue to sell well and, according to Nielsen Soundscan, his albums sales up to May 2013 are 68,630,000,[2] which makes him the best-selling albums artist in the United States World in the SoundScan era (since 1991), a title held since 1991, well over 5 million ahead of his nearest rival, The Beatles.[3] According to RIAA he is the second best-selling solo albums artist in the United States World of all time behind Elvis Presley (overall third to the Beatles and Elvis Presley) with 128 million units sold.[4] Brooks is also one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 190 million records (albums, singles, and video).[5]

Brooks has released six albums that achieved diamond status in the United States, those being: Garth Brooks (10× platinum), No Fences (17× platinum), Ropin' the Wind (14× platinum), The Hits (10× platinum), Sevens (10× platinum) and Double Live (21× platinum).[6] Since 1989, Brooks has released 19 records in all, which include; 10 studio albums, 1 live album, 3 compilation albums, 3 Christmas albums and 3 box sets, along with 77 singles. He won several important awards in his career, including 2 Grammy Awards, 17 American Music Awards (including the "Artist of the '90s") and the RIAA Award as Best selling solo albums artist of the Century in the United States World.

Doesn't change the fact that so many people around the world know little or nothing about him. Seems his popularity is still virtually non-existent outside the US (or Ireland it would seem)
This is an interesting article I read today....http://jrnl.ie/1566870

His 5 or nothing was down to fairness and equality for all who bought for his shows. He didn't let anyone down by treating people equally.

Correct. he showed class and integrity all the way through. Sound bloke.

If he behaved with class and integrity he would have respected irish law and played the reported 4 gigs he was offered.
As for treating people equally, he had a smaller stage show that was to be used for the first 3 gigs. That was upgraded to a bigger stage when he sold all 5. So he was happy to have a lesser show for 240,000 people.
But I suppose he is treating people equally now. Instead of 320,000 people seeing him, now no one will. It's called cutting off your nose to spite your face.
It's definitely treating people equally, but generally not seen as a good thing if it's equally bad.

At this stage (pardon the pun) five shows as sold, or nothing, is the way to go. You can be sure that hundreds, maybe thousands, of ticketholders of cancelled shows will turn up at the 3 or 4 allowed gigs. With the best intentions in the world the chances of it all going very bady would be too high for this cowboy.

Alan Kelly, our new Minister for the Environment, has allegedly "intervened". To what end and by what means is still unclear, but it's bein reported that he's trying to broker a deal for the gigs to take place.
In the same article it's reported that up to 40% of planning objections may have been forged, mis-attributed or otherwise erroneous / subject to some kind of shenanigans.

Hillbillies in the southern states are exclusively WASPS. Don't ever refer to Irish as hillbillies, we're thick paddies, dumb micks etc never hillbillies, that's an American term for uneducated Protestants who live in rural areas of the deep south.

Did you know: Irene Ryan, who played "Granny" in The Beverley Hillbillies had an Irish mother. She was a kind of Sara Palin precursor.

No need to treat everyone equally. People who queued and got tickets for the first three concerts deserve priority over the last two. Why should they lose out because the last bookers now can't go?

    It is reported ......

Mind you the Indo has the guards confirming it and launching a criminal investigation
ALMOST half of the submissions from local residents objecting to Garth Brooks’ Croke Park concerts in Dublin are bogus, a garda investigation has found.

The scale of the suspected forgery has prompted a criminal investigation in Dublin’s north inner city, the Sunday Independent has learned.

Detectives have already identified the potential suspects behind the suspected planning fraud aimed at derailing the star’s plans to perform five concerts in five nights at the stadium.

Sounds like the guards already know who is "behind it". I wonder is it the same nordies who are fed up with he GAA. Completely unnecessary and these people should be subject to the law

Still - 180 valid objections would lead to the same result.

Edit - One of the Indo Journalists has summarised this thread :D
Well worth a read showing how nuts the whole thing is

That's quite an insult to the people who bought their tickets in the third ticket sale.

General rule with concerts, trains, airlines, movies, theatre, anyone stupid enough to turn up on the wrong day doesn't get in.

And somehow that makes them entitled ?

    Of course it does.
Because the second sale was for the additional third date which was licensed and approved and stuff.
    http://www.thejournal.ie/garth-brooks-extra-date-1289970-Jan2014/

It's the third ticket sale for unlicensed gigs that's at issue.

People forget that this isn't an extension, it's an extension on an extension. Does anyone think that they wouldn't try for a sixth or even seventh date if they thought they could get away with it ?

On which note why not book GB back in next year, ? Could easily have done three dates now, and three next year. The only reason GB could claim to disappoint his fans would be if he had planned on not coming back here ever, otherwise they could be accommodated in a few months time.

I'd take all that with a large pinch of salt tbh. All the juicy bits are coming from an 'unnamed source' yet the actual investigating Garda makes one comment; That an investigation is underway and a file will be sent to the DPP.'

I have no doubt there are some forgeries, just the scale of them.

You really should have put the word Journalists in inverted commas... if even he couldn't have been bothered to proof-read his unfunny bletherings, why inflict it in the rest of us?
That award had to go to Eamon O'Brien, who doesn't live near Croke Park, but who appeared on By Wednesday, there was hope again and it seemed talks were still going on behind the scenes
If the concerts are well and truly off why were fans not giving refunds yet?

Perhaps, except the "howya's" tend to be from the other parish in this, quite ecumenical, matter......;)

There's one reason he cant. Because he's a bit of an arsehole. I find it unbelievable that fans are losing out purely because he refuses to play, but the same fans are agreeing with his decision. He can do no wrong in the eyes of the fans. Well, not all, I'm sure some can see he's a bit of a dick.

I've always wondered, when people camp out in queues, what do they attach the tents guy lines to? Its concrete paving usually, so they can't put them in the ground.
