This does not represent an answer to my question. How does trying to get the taoiseach to pull strings represent standing up to corruption?

By appealing to whatever honesty Kenny has to over ruling a gombeen council internationally famous for its planning incompetence, inconsistency, fiascos, corruption and desire for brown envelopes. A council that accepts forged planning objections. Looks like Garth refused to play ball with the brown envelope system.

What is it with (predominantly culchies) and this Yankee red neck, we're a laughing stock of Europe, a source of great amusement to those other countries, major cringeworthy.

IIn the week where you have innocent Palestinians murdered by Israel and bigots up the north celebrating their "culture" (sic) not to mention Greyhound workers still locked out, etc, etc news that actually matter yet we're subjected to this circus in the media who have to take a long hard look at themselves

They didn't, they called in the Gardai.

But don't let the truth get in the way...

But they didn't "offer" they agreed to consider it on receipt of an updated event management plan, which probably would have said it was unmanageable.

The gardai did not seem to think it would be unmanageable, AFAIK. :(

Yeah, lets ignore planning corruption and incompetence so it can continue, and instead try a diversion and sink the country to that level and have race to the bottom. Good idea.

    Yeah, lets ignore planning corruption

:D:D:D ...by corrupting the planning process?

    You couldn't write this nonsense.

Yeah a Police force internationally well known for its 'skill' in 'tackling' Irish planning and financial corruption and politics and jailing the corrupt and the connected. LOL

lol, you're so right, don't ever let the real truth get in the way, that's very Irish.

Planning decision made: trying to overrule that planning decision = oh wait, it's called trying to change the rules to suit yourself.

Ahhh we have a Garth Brooks fan here, were out on the "rally" yesterday with the rest of the yokels.

TThis country is already ****ed anyway and this latest fiasco just added to the humiliation

Subject to licensing only applies to Garth Brooks concerts.
If it was 5 nights of stabbings and/or slane girls there would be no problem.

That's just not true. The licencing is the same for any gig in Croke Park.

They added two extra gigs, chanced their arm, lost and then had a hissyfit because the government won't override planning law.

    It's utter nonsense.

A planing decision only imposed on one applicant and never any other . . . lol
Looks like Garth refused to provide the obligatory envelopes.
    Fair play to him.

The man took $500,000 from the sick and dying.

Christ you people are stooping low..

The president of a hospital clearly thought Brooks was a soft touch and squeezed him for $500,000 to build a women's centre and even sweet talked him about putting up a plaque for his mother to secure the cash.. After seven years, Brooks found out they had never used the money for a women's centre at all and had used the money for other projects, none of which included a plaque honouring the late Mrs.Brooks. This hospital was in his hometown by the way and so obviously would have meant a lot to him. A jury agreed with him and awarded him $1m (which included his original donation).

Took money from the sick and dying. I suggest applying to a red top for a position, as you clearly have what it takes.

You'll have to remind me what other applicant was looking for five nights in a row in Croke Park so that I can do a comparison.

Hardly the same when all the rest are granted licences.

    The Stone Roses would.

That part is irrelevant. Truth is his licence issues are linked to five nights. He got licensed for three.

    What is your problem again?

Unless your in the business of concerts
subject to licence doesn't mean anything to someone who bought a ticket and is looking at date time of concert

This 'subject to licence' clause has only been publicised since this debacle came to light. Didn't those who parted with their hard earned money to pay for tickets, accommodation and transport have a 'legitimate expectation' that the concerts for
which they bought those tickets would actually take place? If 'legitimate expectation'
can be provided as sufficient reason for politicians to hold on to obscene bonuses,
could it not be forwarded as a reason for the concerts to go ahead? There has not
been one word from Peter McKenna since he said a few weeks ago that he was sure
the five concerts would proceed. He and Peter Aiken bear most if the responsibility
for this farce. This 'subject to licence' issue should be overhauled so that we never
have a repeat of ths fiasco.

They only just about sold out their third gig, never mind a fourth and fifth

Hardly the same when all the rest are granted licences.

5 gigs in a row have never, ever been granted a licence at Croke Park.

Honestly, I give up. There's no point in even arguing with this level of debate.

Absolutely nothing remotely unusual happened in terms of licencing. They knew how many gigs were allowed.

The whole process is crystal clear.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

You're the one that brought it up, lol

It doesn't matter who else could sell the place out. That's irrelevant.

The point is he looked for a licence for five nights. He is the only one to do so and he didn't get it.

No one else has asked, no one else has got. Stop painting him as a victim getting special treatment here. He's not and he didn't. Until they started messarsing around trying to placate him after he cancelled three concerts he didn't have to cancel.

****ing hell. How can people get so bitter and venomous over a gig played by a retard in a cowboy hat?

And was told repeatedly and led to believe, like every other concert in Ireland, it would be a mere formality.

Guess he didn't read the brown envelope clause.
