Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Very unusual for a diplomat.

Considering half of the politicians in the country won't spar words with Vincent he is getting my "Gold Star Award" this week!!....:)

That guy was impressive. Was able to handle every question that was thrown at him with charm.

Eoin was right about Voltaire in fairness. It was him that said that.

I'm not getting any sense of appropriate behaviour i.e. gravitas from Vincent regarding the Ambassador's - who in fairness is in a day of mourning for his fellow countrymen - reason for being on the show tonight...

He seems a bit giddy...I suppose its the MLOD effect.... :(

I think the response from the Clonskeagh Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre was indicative of the attitude of Muslims to free speech.... They have no claim to this island and no right (other than their democratic votes) to influences the laws of this country.... Yet their leader was on the radio today saying that no citizen of this country should not even be allowed to create a visualization of the prophet Muhammed, never mind make a satiric remark... as this was against Islam....

He has a point though. Those two psychopaths that carried out those atrocities may use religion as an excuse but at the end of the day they don't represent the vast majority of Muslims.
You get into really dodgy ground when you start putting the blame on one section of society, or at least start giving some people an excuse to so.

I'd love to see l'Ambassadeur on the show more often.

    Vincent was inappropriate tonight.

Yeah, every time the Ambassador would say something serious Vinny would try to bring it back to some giggly joke. Strange behaviour.

No...he said if a newspaper published he would challenge it under our blasphemy laws. Which he has the right to do, whether you agree with that law or not.

The law would be on his side.

    He was right.

    He was right.

The law would (unfortunately) be on his side.

It doesn't mean he'd be right to make use of that law though.

The ambassador gave him a perplexed look at one stage that said it all

I hope he sees sense and allows Vinny to preview the Irish Independent. The current practice of withholding the paper is childish.

I meant that he would be right suggesting the law would be on his side....

It's a shame he felt the need to suggest he would take legal action.

That is probably a Denis O'Brien decision. Denis O'Brien isn't a VinB fan at the moment.

Noel Whelan should really be only let out for elections.

He is superb in those heady days.

Nice dig there at Noel Whelan from Vinnie.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭Busted Flat.

Noel Whelan speaking like the clowns in the Bush admin, There is known knowns, and there is the unknown knowns. This clown is a journo that is supposed to influence the people. His head is too far embedded in the government's butt he can't see the light

He's a little bit more than a clown Busted!...

I can't see the point of discussing at this stage what the issues will be in the next election. If a week is a long time in politics, then a year is an eternity. They might as well have a discussion about whether we will have good weather for the summer!

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

Is this the "If my aunt had balls she'd be..." discussion??...

When you hear someone speaking about Known Knowns, and Unknowns Knowns, that proves he is 100%.

There is no-one to beat him on statistics in an election Busted.

He has a memory second to none.

Paschal gone but voted back into the Seanad.

Noel Whelan's father was a FF Councillor in Wexford for many many years. I agree with g-s-w, he's a brilliant statician, and in fairness, he doesn't take sides.

We all know that the Labour old guard such as Rabbitte, Gilmore, Quinn, Lynch etc. will all jump ship like rats before the next election. They'll scoot off with their big ministerial pensions rather than suffering the ignominy of losing their seats.
