What is the safest way to update to a new enigma 2 image on the alien, it currently on openatv but its got very buggy? Do you have to revert back to spark? I am a noob when it comes to this box so don't want to mess up.

The easiest method is to use the Enigma 2 upgrade plugin in Spark

Cheers, I should of probably done it this way but used the short cut version by clicking the right arrow button on box.

Very happy with my switch to Spark so far, a big thank you to Nowso for help.

Advantages
1. Basic TV watching and recording is faster and have had no lockups or issues so far(had enigma rebooting daily for stability)
2. Playback of movies from my NAS (was hit and miss with enigma)
3. Streaming to other devices is faster and more robust

Disadvantages
1. Family used to Sky EPG on Enigma (If I have the patience can reprogramme the Spark EPG)

spark epg is simple

u can set it to download to ur hdd

at a set time works good or fo it evert day or 2 yourself talks a minute or 2

hit the epg button

hit F1

select opentv provider

select sly 28.2

and download or go back to crossepg menu and download

i will upload a new updated channel list later as there has been a lot of changes

no favourites included , you can add them yourself , channels are grouped up in with simular ones so favourites arent needed as much

there has been lots of changes and even more today

so ill add a new one later

Most of them are still on the right frequency, I went to install your listing but the box does not see my USB key (tried different keys, and both slots, formatting to FAT32 etc. but still no joy).

Then I saw the option for automatic channel updates (or something like that!!) BIG MISTAKE as it seemed to wipe everything and bring in a list of favourites with all sorts of odd stuff as names and very little channels in the 'FAVS'.

Spent a few hours last night rescanning the box and getting the FAVS in order but will have to spend some more time tonight finishing it off. Hopefully I can get the USB recognised and at least export them when I do have them done.

someone else had issues with usbs and sent there box back lately on here .

if you have any issues with the box 1st thing to do is to reboot with the switch at the back

no problems . i do my own so its only a matter of uploading the Channel list

Does anybody know if its possible to configure the Alien remote control to change the volume on the TV and also power of TV and Alien?
Was hoping they was some sort of code input like how you configure the Sky remote for your TV model.

Searched online but cannot find any reference to this, would be very handy instead of needing two remotes.

Devices connected to each other via HDMI can interoperate using HDMI - CEC, this is available on Enigma, I don't think its implemented on Spark though.

They're slowly moving channels over to a brand new satellite and decommissioning an old one.

is not 2 bad for people loading my channel lists

the new satellite was one of them and changing over , and closing down old weaker bands .

in general the reception for people in ireland n uk has improved on a lot of channels

yes on sat and saorview loads itself



only issue with saorview is the rte1+1 issue if its not on it comes up error and u need to switch off and on again

the latest firmware improved streaming to devices from hdd also
