Hi

I can understand the disappointment created by this but unfortunately we do not have a time frame available to us at the moment & we are unable to offer an indication of when it could be right now.

I have spoken to eFibre operations who reckon a new realise of planes will be available to us in 2015 if you would like to check back early 2015 & we may have information of this.

Sorry it's not better news.

Thanks
Ash

That's not an answer Aisling.

You know it isn't.

Why are the cabinets not being turned on when they are completed?

It is a simple question.

We were told come back in October 2014 last time, now it's spring 2015.

What's the delay?

I could be an Eircom representative on this site. How come you people never ever seem to have any information in the slightest, or you are waiting for information which never seems to arrive. May I ask what it is you actually do besides give automated generic responses? Absolutely no help at all. Could the answers here actually be anymore useless and uninformative?

Everything is "hopefully", "maybe", "reckon", "possibly" with you people. Does the company not have milestones and schedules? It said on the map in Autumn of 2013 that eFibre was available in Newcastle West, how can something be so unbelievably off schedule (over a year now)? And to top it all off they don't even inform anyone of why the delay is so big and now it looks like it will be another year before it's here, all without an simple explanation.

I'm in some sort of eFibre contract now because I was told I could get it and signed up, and I don't have any fibre internet because the technician who was supposed to install it just never showed up on the day and Eircom didn't bother to notify me and I've heard nothing since!

A real company can give solid time frames to people and useful information if there is a delay, Eircom fail horribly at everything. Get off your arses and do some work. I can't wait for the day for a real company to come in and just bury Eircom right into the ground and never to be seen of again.

Irish Water would look good next to Eircom at this stage :D don't get me started on eircom technicians ! i wasted a days work waiting for them to call out to a fault and they never showed up, and when they did eventually call out (4 days later) i wasn't at home, a neighbour told me they had called. Fibre now in town and half of the cabinets deliberately turned off !! joke

You should be going to comreg with that issue.

Eircom reps were calling to every house in town in August offering efibre, flyers in every door, knowing full well it wouldn't be available to the majority of the town.

Conning people into long term contracts, when the likes of sky and Vodafone were cheaper.

I started a petition this week, got 20 signatures so far and have sent numerous emails to eircom head of communications.

There might be movement...I just saw the cable ducting team parked up on the hill into beechwood/meadow court with a big reel of light blue cable. I am fairly sure that the light blue stuff is fibre!

They are here again today, good crew about 5 workers pushing in cable.

Looks like beechwood\meadow court could be next up, then another few months for next area 😠

Hi All

Got this bit of news about  the remaining cabinets in NCW off an efibre operations manager.
In relation to Newcastlewest there are 13 fibre cabinets in total and eight of those have been deployed and currently serving over 2,000 customers. One of the remaining fibre cabinets, one is the subject of a large scale replacement cabinet renewal project meaning that our existing infrastructure is being renewed. All of the necessary work associated with this fibre cabinet is complete, but releasing the cabinet in advance of completion of our upgrade work could cause customer service issues. The upgrade work is expected to complete in the next 2 months, the cabinet will be deployed then.

In relation to the remaining four cabinets – the fibre work is not yet completed. The reason it is not complete is that when attempting to install the fibre infrastructure, we discovered that there had been third party damage to the existing eircom duct which serves the four cabinets, in the town.  In order to undertake repairs on the duct, we had to apply for licences from the council to excavate the duct and repair it. The council issued a licence for the works, but the conditions that were imposed by the council were extremely complex and beyond what would normally be required for work of this nature. We were required to

·         Undertake specialist traffic management that would have required us engaging a specialist (and very expensive) traffic management firm. KNN contacted a number of such firms, one refused to take on the contract because the requirements were so stringent.
·         Full bay reinstatement on excavations, which means that any blockage uncovered would have necessitated eircom replacing a 3 x 2 m section of pathway, again imposing what we consider to be additional unnecessary cost on eircom.
·         We would have had to make the footpaths passable each night of the works, so rather than putting in temporary walkways on the roadway as would be the norm, gangways would have been required, again driving unnecessary cost.

So as a result we had to defer the works and we are currently working through a resolution. We would be more than happy to keep you updated as we have more information on the enablement of these four cabinets.

I hope this addresses your query – please do come back to me if I can be of further assistance. If you would like to give me your landline number I can check which cabinet you are connect to.

Doesn't look good, my guess would be late 2015/2016 for the rest of the town go live.

It's a ****ing joke at this stage

At least we now have an explanation as to what the delay is. So basically the council and eircom/KNN are just covering their Ar** in relation to safety issues while the works are being done. Councillors and local TD's should be brought into this or it WILL be 2016 by the time its resolved :(

I've forwarded it to Jerome Scanlan, chairman of the council. (I've no doubt he's aware of it but it's no harm for them to realise that we're aware too.)

Good stuff Mossieh.

TD's Patrick O Donovan and Niall Collins are also both aware and looking into it.

I find that very hard to believe.

Ducking is supposedly damaged near the cabinets at the church and beechwood they are going to have to dig it up, blocking footpaths and have to get it in traffic management at a huge cost.

March 2016 I would believe

They have to spend thousands digging up the footpath near the church and beechwood and bring in traffic control in both areas to get those cabinets live.

They are not going to do that, so prepare to wait until 2016 at the earliest.

Esb/vodafone won't be bring fibre to ncw so they have all the time in the world and will milk it.

Ask to get through to efibre operations when you ring them.

Some of them know what they are talking about.

Tony and Alan don't have a clue, they are just telesales.

Hi Orangetoad

Please visit this link and go to Newcastle on the map : http://www.eircomwholesale.ie/Our_Network/

The cabinets which are colored blue do not yet have a launch date agreed yet but I did contact eFibre operations who feel we should definitely have more news on this around the beginning of August. I'm sorry I can't offer you more specific news.

Cheers
Al

Alan, if you tell us exactly where the duct has collapsed....im sure myself, orangetoad, and a few others could give it a bash. Oh, and a big spool of that nice looking fibre cable that they were teasing us with. We can thieve the stop go lights from the road works outside the town and have it done in a day or two!! I'll make a "careful now" sign for the pedestrians so they know there is a risk on the way to mass!

Hi Kencollins

Unfortunately we can't offer you the network specifications you're seeking and equally we cannot allow ocustomers to work on the Network

but the good news is that we should have more news at the beginning of August.

Cheers
Al
