    Hi All,

I'm planning a trip to South America where I would fly into Buenos Aires, and travel my way up the west coast doing the usual tourist itinerary and ending up in Brazil.

I don't know how long I would spend in each country, but roughly how much money should one budget per month?

I was hoping to go with maybe €10k for 6 months. Less if it is possible. I wouldn't be a flashpacker so I would stay in any place to keep within a budget. I just don't want to run out of money when I'm over there.

    Thanks.

That's loads! I budgeted about 1000/month when I was there for five months in 2010. I had already paid for my flights in and out though, as well as equipment, insurance & other stuff. But 1000 per month spending money was fine, I guess the longer you spend in Brazil & Chile though the more you'd need. 10000 for six months is amazing!

That's good to know. I'll still try and reach the 10k. Be nice to come home with a few bob too.

i spent about a grand a month on a 5 month trip. you should live comfortably on this.not including flights. accomodation is generally cheap but some surprisingly expensive bus trips in chile/arg/uruguay.rip off prices around certain hot spots like cuzco/macchu picchu.
