Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd have Ron Vlaar ahead of him too...

    and robben despite his personality

Messi did not deserve that at all. Muller or Mascherano would have been a better choice. Even James Rodriguez.

Did Schweinsteiger pick up an eye injury in the celebrations or was I just not paying proper attention?

No one wants to mention the elephant in the room, Messi is simply past his peak, which he hit in 2012.

    Messi won it?? Wtf?

Outrageous decision, and thats no Messi hating or anything, but there was a comfortable number of players ahead of him who should have got it.

Crappy that Reus, Gundogan, Lars and Sven Bender miss out on this.

Standard from RTE - overestimating their own importance in the grand scheme of things.

I'd imagine he knows he shouldn't have won it .

Yep - he didn't deserve it and he knows it.

To be fair BBC & ITV have stuck with the actual event and are talking about that, not England.

He was off for a couple of minute earlier with blood running down his face.

Enda: "For fek sake, that's nothing. Mayo won the Connacht championship and I presented the fekn trophy to Andy Moran.. bate that!"

Its about knowing not to take a stupid shot on like that, not whether you have a realistic chance of scoring it. He should have known it was ball in to the box time.

All hindsight really. Messi is lightyears of levels above any of us in footballing terms, knowing better than him is a bit much.
    Bacchus wrote: »
None of the above contradict my opinion that that was a terrible free kick. He hoofed it into the crowd. If Messi is to be held up as this all time great, this was a moment to do something, at least hit the target or put in a cross.

It was a poor free kick, there is no excuse.

No, his status as a great player is not hanging on the success of that one free kick.

Considering the vote is held at half time, not surprising really. 4 MOTM performances in 6.5 games is tough to argue with.

Don't get this anti-Ozil tripe at all. He's created two clear cut chances tonight, and more chances than any other German player at the world cup. What do people want?

To have a pop. Clear as day fr some of the posters.

Forget it tbh, we'll see how well Arsenal do 'carrying' him this season.:)

Never said his status was hanging on it. Just saying a player of his quality should have done far better and it was a poor free kick in anyone's book.
