Tommy Ramone, the final original member of the seminal punk band, The Ramones, has passed away today (11th July, 2014) at the age of 65.

Tommy survived the four original members (Johnny, Dee Dee and Joey). Various others have entered the band at times, but the original four will always be the most revered.

While never as commercially successful as they could have been, The Ramones forever left an indelible print upon the world of Rock Music. Influential in the extreme. Their punk music was nowhere near as punky as it could have been, in fact it was almost bubblegum-punk, but it was more about the look and the attitude that influenced a generation of new rock/punk musicians. Particularly that of Joey Ramone, who's image, sound and attitude made him and his band a counterculture icon for generations. Even today, the famous "Presidential Seal" Ramones t-shirt is almost as ubiquitous as any other band t-shirt.

The Ramones were legends, and now that the last of the originals has passed on to the great gig in the sky, the world of rock once again must salute another fallen soldier.

RIP to all the original Ramones:

Johnny Ramone (John William Cummings; 1948-2004)
Dee Dee Ramone (Douglas Glenn Colvin; 1951-2002)
Joey Ramone (Jeffrey Ross Hyman; 1951-2001)
    Tommy Ramone (Thomas Erdelyi; 1949-2014)
