Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Saw this on twitter:
    Diaby wrote:
I tell myself that if I was in another club, I would have been thrown away a long time ago. I want to reply on the pitch.

Hope he can back the words up, would be great if he does a job for us.

People hammer Diaby but his only crime is being so unfortunate with injury and willing to do whatever it took to return to full fitness. Super pro. Would love if he could manage 30+ appearances this season. Hell even 25 wouldn't be bad across all competitions.

Is Jenkinson a possible 4th CB?

Isn't that where he originally played before being moved to RB? Wenger might be thinking of Jenkinson as an option for both positions. Bit of a utility player.

    Arsenal daily transfer news update!!

    Nice Martin -
BREAKING: Arsenal have reached a total agreement with OGC Nice for the transfer of David Ospina.

    Paul Breen-Turner -
There are unconfirmed reports on Spanish radio that Real Madrid Star Sami Khedira has agreed personal terms with @Arsenal #LaLiga

    Los Blancos -
BREAKING: Sami Khedira will be confirmed as an Arsenal player tomorrow after at fee of £19.8m was agreed (Los Blancos)

For people wondering Los Blancos are the same people that have reported the James Rodriguez to Real Madrid.

£20m seems like a steal if true.

    Tony Leen's Twitter (Irish Examiner):

"O Jogo blow Arsenal cover on moves for midfielder Carvalho. Things gonna have to move fast."

"Was told there was interest there. Was hoping radio silence meant things were still bubbling along. Now with O Jogo story, dunno.."

    Hmmm...

I really hope he writes an auto biography. It would be fascinating reading obviously and would be very interesting to know how much his hands were tied regarding transfer spending.

I'd say it will be a case of one or the other with Carvalho or Khedira.

Don't know much about him but as I said before big fan of Khedira but once we buy someone to play DM whether it be Bender, Khedira, Carvalho I'll be happy.

He certainly looks the part if that report is accurate, "a cross between Yaya and Viera". Like that.

If true, I think the Carvalho thing is a two fingers at RM/Khedira - either sign or be left behind. Not often the real Arsenal business gets leaked.

    I'm suspicious.

If you look at what the Internet and social media has done to player profiles, really the biggest thing is that a huge amount of players are overrated.

I mean how many CMF/DMF's were really that great when Vieira was about?

    Vieira, Keane, Makelele, Gatusso.

It's a fairly limited number that really made an impact that is memorable.

Now we've currently Alsono, Pogba, Vidal, Khedira, Yaya, Carv, Matuidi and so on and so forth.

I don't want to get into itty bitty arguments about specific players or positions.

I just find it hard to believe that Juve really have two midfielders THAT good, just like Roma had 2 strikers THAT good last year.

Thankfully I think Wenger is immune to this which will probably be a huge bonus in the next few years.

Is it true Khedira is looking for £150,000 per week? How much is your top earner at the moment getting and who is it? Ozil?

Djorkaeff, Ballack, Scholes, Pirlo, Cambiasso, Davids, Seedorf. Definitely more than that too.

The 2 Juventus players definitely are that good. Vidal is probably the best CM in the world, and Pogba is just going to get better and better.

Apparently both Ozil and Sanchez are on 130k per week. They're our top earners.

Pogba does have spells of inconsistency though. He has amazing talent but it's not always in evidence. As was seen at the WC he needs to be better at controlling his emotions at tines too.

He is still very young too and has had an awful lot of responsibility placed on his shoulders.

    Vieira, Keane, Gatusso.

I would love a strong DMF like one of these legends, someone thats a leader, a character, someone willing to put their body on the line for the team.

Theres no-one out there at the moment that I can think of that fits that profile do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,747 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

The statistics really don't seem to back up the idea of Khedira being our DM, hes definitely more of a box to box. Of course it wouldn't be an issue if he and Ramsey developed a good understanding, his height would be useful too.

If Khedira and Bender are our 2 main targets for CM/DM then its pretty clear Wenger wants a double pivot and not a specialised DM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,752 ✭✭✭Mr Blobby

Truth is Arsenal have never really played with a full DM. We've always had players that could carry the ball forward but also contribute defensively.

You go through all our previous DMs and most were very good on the ball and were given a lot of freedom to go forward.

Having a holding mid who would only sit back and defend isn't really a good idea imo. Getting Khedira gives us the best of both worlds really.

True that. But i think we need a dedicated DM. I'd have one who wouldn't cross the half-way line as he would steady the ship. I still get nightmares thinking about that Chelsea game last year in particular.

I'd love to have someone in the Gilberto mould in the team. Certainly a DM but well able to contribute to an attack if needed. That's the kind of DM style that Wenger's seemed to prefer down the years.

Gilberto was a DM really, but technically good too.

    I still miss him :(

There's a book of its own in that.

Re Khedira; if he's signed I'd expect something similar to the Vieira/Petit partnership between himself and Ramsey - one goes forward, the other stays back.

Fairly worried about the CB situation though. When you look at Liverpool for example with Agger, Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren and even Kolo Toure. Some serious depth there.

Serious depth but would you start any of them here? They had a horrid defensive record last season

According to the latest Wenger musings we will not be signing another attacker, puts an end to the Ballotelli rumours. Also we will be getting a keeper in (Ospina done by all accounts), a CD (if Vermaelan goes) and a midfielder possibily
