Hull City have launched bid for Carl Jenkinson and hope to seal £3m deal, Steve Bruce having a good summer so far.

Great hard working lad but dont think he was ever gonna make it.

I'd be happy enough with him going on a season loan, but I still think he has a chance and don't think he should be sold just yet.

Please don't sell Jenko, I bought a jersey with Jenkinson on it because I thought he was gonna be there for life. :(

Does anyone know when the third kit is being released?

A lot of sites just say 'Summer 2014'. Was an exact date mentioned at any stage?

    14th August!!

Debuchy and Chambers will be ahead of him and i think Bellerin looks a better talent so we should cash in now imo.

3 mil isn't exactly cashing in though.

Agreed, he just signed like a 5 year contract last summer also didn't he?

So giving him a season long loan somewhere he will actually play is best as if he does well we can bring him back into the fold or give him another loan.

But if he doesn't look like he'll make it with us he'll still have a 3 or so years lef ton his deal and so we would prob still get around the same price for him.

I really like Jenko as would be sorry to see him go.

However, despite incidents like offering Ibra a trial and passing up on Yaya that people love reminding us about, I don't think we've ever regretted letting a player go.

If Wenger figures that Jenks won't be good enough, then he's right and it's better for everyone if he starts a proper playing career elsewhere.

Letting Gilberto go when we'd already lost Lassana Diarra and were inevitably losing Flamini and leaving us with Denilson was a pretty bad mistake for me.

When we talk about players not having "heart and passion" and then let Jenks go, the mind boggles tbh.

He's young, clearly loves the club and has shown enough ability to be a squad player.

Given his Gooner allegiance, I'd imagine he'd be happier on the bench, playing in cup games than playing for another London club imo.

Jenks could really benefit with being first choice at a premiership club for a year. He needs to be playing every week to be assesed properly so a season loan is the only logical answer and would be good for him and the club.
I like the guy and would hate to see him leave permanently

Yeah i think the key ingredient for Jenks is games. I noticed when he did get a run in the team that he improved with every game he played but he was a victim of Sagna's greatness.

Id be happy seeing him go out on loan and reassessing him at the end of next season. Ive a feeling that with a consistent run of games he could turn out to be a diamond of a full back.

Given the loyalty to RVP and Diaby I would imagine that if AW feels that Jenks has the ability to make it then he'll stick by him - either through a loan spell or a squad player. If AW sells him then I'd have to trust that AW is doing it for the good of the club - and possibly for the player.

Correct. Wenger sees him every day in training or reserve matches.

I like Jenks because he is Arsenal through and through. However I have watched him closely in games and find his positioning to be poor. He allows has man get behind him very easily and i don't believe he focuses enough on his positioning. I really don't rate him as a defender.

Thats an awful pity. I think he'll develop into a great full back. Hopefully we have at least agreed on a buy back option ala Vela

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,992 ✭✭✭wawaman

Pity about Jenko but as a fan he lived out his dream to play and score for Arsenal. Plus he got an FA Cup winners medal !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,192 ✭✭✭Ken Shamrock

Have i taken a shine to Jenks character over the years? Yes i have, am i sad to see him go? Yes i am but! is off loading Jenks for Chambers a good decision for Arsenal FC? You bet ya it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,483 ✭✭✭✭cson

That's one straight out of left field imo.

    Really has me puzzled.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,992 ✭✭✭wawaman

As much as i like his attitude i lost faith in Jenks after the Chelsea carling cup game last season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,500 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

Letting Jenkinson go is a shame. Woulda preferred him to go on loan first to see how he gets on playing regularly. Although chances are isn't good enough for us.

You know what, AW just got serious.

There's a real sense of drive about the team now. It's as if there's no time for 2nd best, lets just get in the players that will do the job.

I see AW with his shopping list and is just ticking them off as the days go by

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,589 ✭✭✭Awesomeness

Link to the source? I dont see it mentioned about Jenks anywhere on the SkySports site

Hold on to Verm and sign a quality CDM and we're set for a tile push.

Really can't understand letting Jenkinson go for £3 million. Aside from anything else we've downgraded on our first choice RB and the back-up may well be better long-term but I wouldn't be putting much expectations on him yet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭ronjo

To be honest I am happy enough to see Jenkinson leave.

Yes, he dearly loves the club but this is Wenger showing some ruthlessness that we havent seen in a while.
No more overloyalty (is it a word?).
Sorry Carl, you tried your best but its not good enough as we are Arsenal and we are on the way back !

Is this Chambers guy really 13million better then Jenkinson?

I don't understand how Jenkinson is only worth 3m when you have Chambers and Shaw going for such crazy amounts. Where's that English premium dang it?

Like Phil Jones, is the danger with Chambers that we've signed a jack of all trades but a master of none? There seems to be a hint of Wenger seeing him as a utility man who can fill three positions. Does he have a specialist position in mind for him or is he going to compete directly with Debuchy for that right back berth with a last resort option of using him in other areas?

Button, one of those rare things that has unified us.

    I just don't get it.

Pretty sure anytime he played for Southampton it was at RB so surely Wenger sees that as his main position with him only ever having to fill in when needed at CB or DM?

    What team? :pac:

Seriously though this just seems to be blatant asset stripping that is going on. Im surprised that Koeman hasnt chucked it in already. Yes they've got a pile of cash but sure what good is that if you arent buying players and with a month to go to the start of the season they had better get a move on (provided they actually intend on replacing the departed)

I do actually feel bad for the Saints but so long as we are ok then all is right with the world

Anyone glad with Wenger shipping Jenkinson out should remember that the next time they consider whining that a player on the way out "has no loyalty". It cuts both ways.

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,460 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

The Gunners reddit won't be the same without the Jenkinson banter memes, though I never understood where that came from.

Just because you are loyal to a club does not mean you should never lose your place with them, hell i would be extremely loyal to Arsenal that doesn't mean i should be signed and kept on even if there are 2-3 players better than me in my position.

Bellerin played defensive midfield for Watford a couple of times last season didn't he?

Sad to see him go but if Wenger doesn't think he can make it in the long run I trust Le prof's judgement

Exactly, isnt that what we have been critical of Wenger for in the past? Having to many dead weights around the club (not saying jenkinson is a dead weight btw)

That's actually a very good video generally

Bottom line is though that a player's career is short and precarious. If they feel (RVP, Nasri, etc) that they can do better elsewhere, I don't think they should be seen as traitors to the cause.

Just as the club should not be seen as disloyal when it decides that it can do better than a particular player it has on the books

Players have always come and gone as managers dictated. It's football.
Never paid much attention to it - one in and one out.
The latest "superstar" is just around the corner.
As long as it's done to strengthen the team it's alright BUT in the past it wasn't always the way or so it seemed at the time.
