Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Apparently Kos hurt his Achilles tendon and may be a doubt for next week

I don't think were gonna make another signing this window, at least a CB or DM.

I know Wenger said he would replace Verms should Verms go, but with the impressive performances of Chambers, I think he may hold back.

I personally would rather see someone like Hayden promoted than for money to be spent on a new CB

I would love a DM, kevin keegan style, I would love it.

That would be a bad mistake i think.
We are not far off having a great squad for a long season.
Could be a fatal mistake not to complete the squad.

I agree, still need a cb, dm and possibly a striker but that's not priority.

But for whatever reason wwmgwr just won't give us that DM we have needed for years!

Think we need one more CB and I think we'll get one

Not good enough for a team that wants to challenge for the title.

A positive start to the season, just what we needed.
Sign a DM and our cover should be good enough for the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,117 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Bit silly to repeat the mistake making Vermaelen captain.

Missed the match today but it sounded good!

Maybe this is the beginning of Arteta's dream move to Barcelona :p

I think a CB purhcase is an absolute must, even moreso than a DM. We simply cannot start the season with any possibility of Monreal ever appearing at CB.

I'd be shocked if we don't sign a centre back.

Regardless of todays result, we are still short a few signings. Theres a long season ahead and I expect us to be challenging on all fronts. Another cb must be a priority

If wilshere stars the season well I don't think we will sign a midfielder

Had a bit to drink but was dubuchy skinned a lot? Thought he had a bad game whilst I thought Gibbs played very well.

3 really Well taken goals, having Ramsey in my fantasy team is a no brainer!

He was positionaly poor on the first 20 but went on to have a very good game. Seemed solid in the tackle and produced some good balls in. Considering he should only get better as he settles he looks a very good replacement for Sagna

I would guess he's trying to get away from the Champagne spray.
Subs have been wearing flip flops for a long time now as far as I can remember

I ordered the Player version off my guy and got the player version details except its a fan size fit.
I emailed Mac seller and asked and he is the same. Cant seem to find the proper players version anywhere :(

The material used isn't very common.
Your best bet would be the Arsenal store.. But they're bloody expensive.

Christ im on cloud 9 after the result today.

Really need to get some cover in for the CB's, it'll be a shame if we are caught out short at the first game of the season.

Terrific result today. Ok granted that City were missing alot of their big guns but still from our point of view i felt we made a statement. We badgered them and asked questions throughout. The mindset of this club has changed. We're back!

We were missing players too, as well as playing the second half with Monreal at CB. Neither side were at full strength.

I know it's a glorified friendly but it's annoying listening to how many players city were missing

From our best 11 we were missing

    Mert
    New DM. (Hopefully)
    Ozil
    Walcott
    Giroud (prob)

So we basically had out half our second team yet it's overlooked

    From the starting 11

Hard to take anything from the second half too many changes

I had a few random thoughts on Arsenal's squad, ahead of the season, and thought I'd add them here!

Taking the starting 11 from yesterday (Szczesny, Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs, Arteta, Sanchez, Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla, Sanogo) and bench (Martinez, Monreal, Rosicky, Ox, Flamini, Giroud, Campbell), you’ve got a few interesting possibilities when the Germans are fully fit and reintegrated and when Walcott/Ospina are back.

Ospina pushes Martinez off the bench.
I think it’s a question of either Podolski OR Campbell on the bench.
Ozil pushes Wilshere to the bench, which moves Flamini or Rosicky off. Ideally, you’d keep Rosicky but, position-wise, Flamini might be more important there.
Mertesacker pushes Chambers to the bench - which bumps Monreal off.
Walcott probably pushes Cazorla to the bench too (although I think he’ll be eased in and probably the same with Ozil too).

So, you’ve got 23 senior players above but, even with that, I think you definitely still need another senior CB in the squad (even if it’s a Squillaci) AND you’ve still only got Arteta or Flamini as starters for the DM position. From memory, it’s a much larger senior squad than Wenger typically works with.

In terms of the other members of the senior squad, it turns out that Diaby’s actually been dead for three years, Gnabry’s probably going on loan and Miyaichi is a figment of everyone’s imagination.

However, the real problem with the larger squad is that it threatens my favourite part of every season: Arsenal’s 3rd round League Cup team. So, the following youngsters from the Emirates Cup/pre-season will at best feature in the League Cup

    Bellerin
    Miquel
    Akpom
    Hayden
    Coquelin
    Zelalem

However, the size of the squad this year means that the really promising u-18 players like Chris Willock or Dan Crowley won’t get minutes and the more senior members of the U-21 team, like Olsson and Toral, could struggle to get a game too. Which is a shame, as that used to be one of the best parts of the League Cup! The 2007 final team had an average age of 21 and in subsequent years, the team with Bendtner, Vela and Wilshire that hammered Sheffield United was pretty special too. With a slightly smaller squad, someone like Tafari Moore would probably get a decent runout too. Having said all that, I do have some hope that Wenger will still keep to his League Cup principles (but it will be hard with the size of the squad).

That is all. Have a good season, gooners!

What about Hayden? although it would be madness having 2 young CB's
