Kitten weight

    We have just got a new kitten and wonder what would the average weight of a 12 week old female kitten be? Its more out of curiousity, she seems very small but in good health. Planning a trip to vet who will weigh her I know, but want to give her a week to settle before we bring her.

    1 day 2.5 - 5 oz
    1 week 4 - 9 oz
    3 weeks 8 - 15 oz
    4 weeks 9 - 18 oz
    5 weeks 10 - 22 oz
    6 weeks 11 - 25 oz
    7 weeks 14 - 31 oz

    “Normal birth weight for kittens is approximately 3.5 to 4 ounces. The minimum weight gain expected for a kitten is approximately 0.5 oz. / day. By six weeks of age, kittens should weigh approximately one pound.”

    “If it is healthy, receiving adequate food and growing normally, it will gain an average of 4 oz per week until it is 6 months old.”

    EYES

    “The kitten’s eyes remain closed until approximately 7 to 10 days after birth although the age at which they open ranges between 2 and 10 days. It takes an average of 2 to 3 days for both eyes to open completely.”

    “When eyes open, the iris is usually a gray-blue color that gradually changes to the normal adult color by 4 to 6 weeks of age.”

    WALKING

    “Normal walking begins at approximately 16 days of age. By 3 weeks kittens walk with a steady gait.”

    “Kittens can use their front legs to stand and walk at 1 to 2 weeks of age. Shortly thereafter, the rear legs also can support the body.”
