There is a bar in the Dail that is always used.Far more than the Gym.Strange that.
No its nearly always used to entertain visiting constituents. Difficult to do that in the gym. The members only side is very thinly populated usually. You'll also see all parties FG, SWP, FF etc entertaining in there.

but don't let facts get in the way of a good headline. Check it out; ask to visit your TD in Dail Eireann and visit. costs nothing and well worth it.

Nothing like getting one's priorities right. A gym takes precedence over water mains with a leakage rate of 40%. Nero fiddling while Rome is swamped.

Walking the dog in good clean country air, priceless.

There were a few protesters with dogs yesterday.

    And no,they were not rotweillers.

Was one of them you with dog?

Private debt collectors are to be employed on an “ongoing basis” to chase up unpaid Dáil bar tabs running into tens of thousands of euro.

The decision has been taken by the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission, which runs Leinster House, after it was found that a small number of TDs and senators are consistently breaching credit limits.

Me, Protest? Are you mad? I've better things to do with my time. Like catching up with my housework after the working week.

    Bollollllllox.

I worked in govt buildings in the '80's.

If I'd a pint for every one of them I saw falling out of that bar I'd (almost) be as buckled as they were. If I was allowed to run up their tab without ever paying I'd still be there :D

I don't protest either, but I'm having serious reservations about this IW.

Salaries of €1m could well be in the offing within a few years. That's the real worry here, no regulation, no standards, no concept of value for money.

If Fianna Failures had sorted out the water years ago instead of wasting cash on E voting machines etc we would not have 40% of our water leaking.
Fianna Gail know this is crap but they have been ordered by Troika to tax our water. It is the fact they are not listening to the majority of people they represent that is annoying.Joan Burton mocking people who protested.Anyhow little apples will grow again as my late Grandad from Wexford used to say.She will have to come crawling for votes again soon.

ah well its only private debt collecters. the politicians would be easily able to deal with them, i'd have respect for them for doing that at least. then we can bring in a state debt collecting service that everyone can make use of (won't be popular but i want rid of the private lot if i'm honest)

The "it's a precious resource" thing is nonsense. This is an island where it pi.ses rain the whole time. However, it does cost money to deliver water to people's homes. Creating the Irish Water monstrosity was madness though. However there has to be metering so someone with a swimming pool pays more than someone who showers once a week. And those who can't pay shouldn't have to.

Is this the first of many I wonder?
The Mayor of Drogheda, Kevin Callan, has resigned from Fine Gael in protest at the government’s handling of the controversy with water charges.

No. He's just getting an early start in canvassing for the General Election. Same as AAA, PBP, Socialists, SF and FF are doing.

Don't be so naive. Do you really think the AAA et al care a fig for water charges? They have both eyes firmly on the next General Election!

Nobody is taking any of "your" water. Your free to collect it the same way the state is.

If you want them to clean it for you and pipe it to your kitchen sink, that costs money.

Why not disconnect your house from the mains and sort your own?

Kevin Callan isn't a member of AAA, the SWP, SF, FF, etc he is now a former member of FG.

Also, as a barrister, I think some emphasis needs to placed on some of his comments.
He made his decision to leave the party and become an independent member of Louth county council, 24 hours after nearly 8,000 people took to the streets of Drogheda, which is the largest provincial town, to express their anger at water charges.
“This project that is Irish Water is toxic politically speaking,” he said.

“This whole debacle that is Irish Water has led me to the point of view that we are dealing with cronyism, we are dealing with allowances, we are dealing with all of this nonsense, bonuses, and people can’t do it.”

“Irish people have carried the burden to get us out of the recession and they can’t do it anymore. The question will be asked where do you find the money, but that is not the question, the question is how can you take money from people who do not have it?”

I think the whole thing has started to crumble.

Fair play to Kevin for making his stand.

Would be very surprised if we dont see kevin putting himself forward as an independent in the next GE or even locals/councils

Do you think there is anything in his statement that he could not have said before he saw the protests on Saturday?

Have to laugh. Theyre all a bunch of untrustworthy , lying (insert more names here) until they leave the party, then they are held up by detractors as such honourable guys, looking out for the little man.

How about they are just bigger snakes looking after their own interests and salaries figuring they will have a better chance getting re-elected by doing a u turn on their ideals? Or does that not suit an agenda?

No. He's just getting an early start in canvassing for the General Election. Same as AAA, PBP, Socialists, SF and FF are doing.

He is quoted in the Sindo saying he is resigning, mainly because of how O'Dowd handled the water issue.

O'Dowd is from Drogheda as well.

He blamed IW some time ago,for the debacle.

    A bit

After their By-election loss and yesterday's march Mary Lou has now declared she's NOT paying the water charges...

But that's the problem, isn't it. The State wants it everyway. If you don't have a TV, you still have to pay for a license. Because you may have a computer, or perhaps a tablet, or maybe a mobile fone. They are being found out as hypocrites. This is what the protesters are about.

A bit of argy bargy going on.

"FORMER FINE GAEL Minister Fergus O’Dowd had a torrid time on Morning Ireland this morning, as he appeared for an interview to talk about his blistering attack on the Government in today’s Irish Independent. "
