I stand by my opinion that ALL politicians have both eyes on the General Election.

Not a bit worried about that BUT you clearly are ;)

Do you think there is anything in his statement that he could not have said before he saw the protests on Saturday?

Well there's two ways of looking at that. The first is, that it does say in the article that he was considering resigning even before the budget. (hindsight is a wonderful thing)

The second is, if the protests are now starting to have the effect of making some TD's, politicians, party members etc resign, the protests have been a success.

Maybe the polls indicating they are now the most popular party in Ireland, a whole 4 points ahead of FG has spurred her on.

Beome even more populist? Can't wait to see all the savings we make in justice by having the IRA army council dole out justice!

We used to hear a similar line trotted out when people gave out about the TV license.

Pretty soon, they're going to remove (or attempt to) that choice from people too.

Can I have a go in your time machine so, because they left the scene quite some time ago now.

Ask the DUP, who they're in a coalition with if you don't believe me

Any protest that would make a TD resign absolutely would be a success.

A councillor? I think the "right to water" gang have their sights set a bit higher than that. :pac:

No, you just made that up.

I'm afraid he didn't just make that up:

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/all-households-must-pay-broadcasting-charge-237169.html
Every liable household, without exception, will have to pay the new public service broadcasting charge.
The charge will replace the television licence towards the end of next year.
Nobody, it has been emphasised, will be able to argue against paying the charge on the grounds they do not have a television, computer, or any other device that can receive public service broadcasting.
Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte wants to see the charge introduced by late 2014.

I want to be the first to coin the phrase "Banjo's law" much like Godwin's law, and it happens on this site, and in the Dail quite regularly.

Usually when someone is losing an argument.

Joe Costello interviewed on the 9pm news, said that the government needs to act quickly on Irish Water.

He said that a referendum should considered, in order to ascertain, what the people want.

He also said that the referendum, should also consider privatisation.

Very interesting post about the price of water in Belgium where water is scarce.
It is far cheaper than the prices IW want to charge.

The referendum could only cover the privatisation question and would be a foregone conclusion.

If they asked what the people want, I imagine most would vote No to water charges altogether.

This government could well collapse in the new year. The next week will be very interesting. A lot of dissenting mutterings about Leinster House.

I agree but you should have seen the protest in Galway, there was a very strong Sinn Fein element.
