Barney I was talking to a guy the other day in a similar situation to you but he has his own well and septic. He's stumped and hasn't a clue about irish water because he says it's got nothing to do with him and he is not nor never will be a customer.

The people here on this forum in favour of water charges will tell you to pay because xy and z will happen to you if you don't. The people against the charges will tell you not to pay because xy and z won't happen to you. So it's hard to know sometimes what to think.

You could talk it over with other people in the group scheme see what they think.
You could get advice from your solicitor.
You could listen to other people here on the forum and read back over the thread, it's gone over a hundred pages now!!

They are very polite as he would have seen if he had opened the pack.

What if I am not a customer of Irish Water?
If you are not supplied by the public water main and are not connected to a public sewer, then you are not a customer of Irish Water. To ensure that we do not contact you again, we ask that you complete the application process.

Unless he has some political motivation in refusing to complete the application form I don't see any good reason otherwise. Not doing so will result in them contacting him again, if I interpret the above correctly.

Please show me the part you consider to be legal advice so we can all laugh at you

I even underlined it for you, spent long enough around the courts here to know there is no way of knowing for sure how a judge will decide.

Also, on the subject of filling out the IW pack I don't recall seeing mention of anyone being obliged to fill the form out.

For some reason you seem to be mad for a laugh on here, got a very similar reply on the subject of ESB meter calibration, the egg should be just about off your face from that one. ;)

No obligation indeed. But since they have a name and address they could still issue a bill in the absence of any application being submitted.

Oh absolutely agree, they can send a bill, just like I could send a bill to you but you wouldn't have to pay it unless I'd supplied you with something.

That's because there is no company on the planet that can make that promise but that doesn't fit into your little rant does it. You can claim all you like that IW cannot guarantee the security of customers personal details but it tells a lot when you refuse to acknowledge that this is the case with ALL companies.

Yea, open a thread about other companies if you like, ok!

    Try and stay on topic.

It's a bit like the Property Tax. There was no need to keep data updated since it was abolished in 1977. When it was reintroduced the information available was very imperfect. But much progress has been made since and I believe compliance is now over 90%. IW could be sending bills to people who get no service if for some reason they do not convey that information. They have been invited to do so and it is very simple. But they will be sending bills to a much bigger group who are getting a service but also refuse to convey that information. It will all settle down in due course, other countries have more or less perfected property tax and water charging systems. Unlike Ireland no other developed country ever abandoned an existing system of property tax.

Again I agree but don't see where they say they'll take someone who doesn't use the service to court if they don't reply.

Edit, as with the LPT I have no argument with IW for sending the bill wrongly - just to be clear, oh and out of courtesy I'd inform them if I wasn't a customer, but that's just me.

Very sensible. There is no need for people to make their lives more complicated that they need be. The ones that do get a service and are writing No Contract or whatever are just going to end up paying more. The sad thing is that some of them are being misled by spurious information emanating from sources with an agenda. I heard Ruth Coppinger on the radio today saying they are going to organise a mass non payment campaign. Just the same old Soviet era guff.

You can refuse to pay your utility bill and go all the wayvto court and stand there trying to get one over on "the man" and still have to pay your bill plus a fine, or you can grow up a bit, cut back a bit on your water wastage, try and put aside a couple of €s for your bill and get on with your life. Either is good for me.

For new bill, new charge, new tax etc etc etc ....... of course you can.
Any idea when it all will stop?

I'm all for simple, fair but simple, I also find it funny the reaction from certain types when anyone questions anything remotely related to the state, very point blank, got the same attitude when I called IW - the person was very 'that's it - don't question me, her supervisor was much nicer and better able to handle sticky questions - like data security Timberr.
I believe we should always question, I also believe in the right to protest (not the loony stuff that's all over the internet at the moment) and can understand how some feel lost and betrayed.

No contract no consent is fine with me too, but get the feeling from some they still want the service

Firstly, pretty sure that is limewood Estate, which I don't think is council housing/local authority housing, secondly to describe folk as 'council house scum' is only alienating you, and the people you think you represent.

What's your problem with people from council houses btw?

Ahhhh I remember when my dad owned an Audi (poor man's Merc)

Then he got a job and we could afford a merc. :)

So you're telling me that this was a privately developed and owned estate from the start?

My issue is that the people in these videos are complete leeches on Irish society. Always at home and ready for a protest because they do not work or contribute. They should be thankful for every cent they get off the rest of us.

I think you might suffer a wee bit from inferiority complex issues.

However, I'll lower to your level and guess that my dad could beat your dad in a fight.

How do you know they don't work?
Everyone doesn't have a handy PS job where they can start at 9.30 and finish at 4.
    Ever heard of shift work?

I've heard this so many times. But what about shift work. Look at them! Complete wasters. All the protests are happening in the same few grey ****ty areas of dublin.

I don't know if this has been answered here but does anyone know why it is a household allowence of 30,000l that is being given and not a per person allowance.

I've been working figures today and if you are living alone and metered and use 52,000L a year you will pay about 110 euro a year. (Based on rate and household allowance)
But if you are living with another adult, like many people are and both use 52,000L a year, you will pay 362 euro a year. Around 181 euro a person. (Based on the rate and the household allowance)

Why are people expected to pay 70 euro EACH more for the same water service??

I find these figures very concerning and extremely unfair. Possible discrimination at play or similar? Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this?
