I for one wont be paying it and I will not fill out their pack (which I haven't actually received yet).

Im living in Portlaoise, where the levels of lime in the water is ridiculously high. I moved in to my apartment a little over a year ago and for the third time, my boiler has sprung a leak as a direct result of lime build-up (confirmed to me as being all too common in the area by my letting agency). Over the last 3 days alone, I've lost about 50 litres of water due to the leak.

Surely water with such high levels of lime cannot be safe for consumption on a long term scale. So, I, like most people in Portlaoise, pay for bottled water when I'm doing my shopping.

To all those complaining about water charges, what about people living in the country who have to spend Thousands to supply themselves with water? And foot every penny of maintenance costs, electricity costs, And pay septic tank charges. Ye have it too easy.
why split people between those with wells and those who have no choice but to depend on water delivery from the local authority? neither party have a choice in how they get their water. I agree theres seperate costs involved but in light of things people should be united in their views.

I'm not splitting them, they are already geographically split, yet all pay taxes. But the country people don't get any water provided from a portion of those taxes.

look my point is for loads of people to have a common goal rather than individuals complaining about their own specific scenario. I know and appreciate what youre talking about but there needs to be some unity first.

I agree with you, both urban and rural dwellers are getting hit in one way or another, things are getting out of hand everywhere.

There is a vid going around FB I don't have enough posts to post it. It is the Water Charges bill being debated in the Dáil from 18 th of sept has it been posted here?

Try not to be a total waste of human DNA with an absolutely pointless comment like that. What age are you, 12?

Some ****ing laugh with these "protests" out on the roads this evening. Took me 20 minutes to move 600m because I was stuck behind a bunch of twats with signs in the middle of the road.

I've been at the anti water tax meeting for limerick tonight. Big turnout, the place was packed. There's buses going up on the 11th to the protest. I think i'll go.

Personally i'm just not gonna respond to anything from IW.
It will be my first protest in anything. enough is enough.

Is this the video you are on about?

Thanks, it totally killed the mood in the car with my girlfriend. But I am just going to pay what I have to pay like I do any other tax and hopefully these people will see sense and begin walking on pedestrians footpaths, considering they are indeed pedestrians.

Having lived in the countryside all my 50 odd years, I know of only ONE household that use a well. The rest of us are on either a group scheme or mains. Most do, however have a septic tank which costs approx €100 a year to empty.

One household out of how many? I'm guessing your countryside is not far from the outskirts of an an urban area with a mains water network.?

Yes, possibly. Or they may be benefitting by using more than the average estimated amount .

    Yes, completely true.

Completely debunking the myth that it has anything to do with water conservation, and everything to do with getting their hands on the electorates already taxed income.

It's a tax grab, plain and simple.

sorry but there is no debate on a civil right "You think it would be illegal to charge for water?" - water, while it is a resource is a basic necessity, the debate was regarding a free dribble of water, it is as far as i know illegal to deny people basic water availabilty, as in to deny non payers water whatsoever. Therefore there is no debate.

Are all you pro water charges rich c**ts or something? where the f*** are you coming from? cos youre not in my taxed to **** situation.

No one is saying that water will be cut off, It will be reduced, enough to live off which is a basic human right. Nothing illegal there.

Reducing water to a trickle would be considered a cut off.

If the pressure is not high enough to reach the tap then its cut.

Who decided on how much pressure the trickle is? Are there official trickle inspectors?

NO it would be considered a reduction.
If the pressure is not high enough to reach the tap then its cut.

Water will still come out of the tap, Just not at the pressure you have now. 2 minutes to fill a kettle instead of 20 seconds, 15 minutes to fill your toilet cistern instead of 2. Reduction does not = Cut off.

That is something you should ask IW

If you had a fulltime job 40 hours a week and your hours where reduced to 10 hours a week would you be unemployed?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,299 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

I'd have to apply for Social Welfare to make ends meet.

So technically, yes, I would be unemployed.

She lost me at Socialist Party. Love the way she claims that we are already paying for it, as if we all are paying for it. I would assume she meant to say all people paying taxes are paying for it.

    Everybody pays tax.

No its reduced, personally I believe it should be cut off, if people don't want to pay for water then they shouldn't have water its a pretty simple concept. Now if people don't want to pay for water their supply will be reduced giving them enough to live on, just not enough to have numerous showers in one day, fill the kettle a hundred times, leave taps running for no reason, wash cars, water plants etc.

If people want to continue using as much water as they currently are and continue to have as much pressure in their taps as they currently do then they will have to pay for the privilege.
