Ah here, everybody pretty much had Aguero the weekend just gone, there must have been more pleasurable hauls during the year.
Although I know that your highlight was the giant killing of week 4, before I got my bearings:pac:

My three rivals didn't and all of them were in the top 20k. One didn't even have him!

The highlights of my season so far..... doing the double over Mr P in FSA League 1. If i manage to survive the drop i can add that to the list too :)

I forgot to mention my other highlight was the time I beat you to post that it was half time☺

My brother still refuses to get Aguero in since he's "too expensive." He and our mate are having a tight battle for 2nd in our ML while I'm over 400 points ahead :D

Highlight: Getting the Costa conundrum right and Sanchezs early season explosion spot on.
Worst: My main rival finally getting Aguero in last Saturday morning and captaining him like myself. It was game over if he didn't make that move.
An honourable mention to my Costa out (v Everton) early on and bringing in Mario and giving him the armband.... If you can find a worse move than that I'd be surprised

I remember that fateful weekend too :(
highlight : benteke hat trick and my subsequent rise from 450 k to 98k this week
lowlight : the entire season up to that point

Best: captaning Benteke for his Dgw (captaining Aguero this week did nothing for my OR)
Worst: bringing BUIB in for Kane in January or making a mess of the Sanchez injury situation around February

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,579 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Highlight - obertans first goal in 2 years the week I brought him in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,218 ✭✭✭qwabercd

Best: Heaton's peno save and getting cazorla in at the perfect time both stick out, along with a few big captaincy hauls for aguero (x2), hazard, costa and austin (x2). Actually my total captain points is 528 which seems quite good.

Worst: Bringing baines in ahead of terry before terry went 8-8-15 and baines did the square root of fcuk all. I was all set to bring terry in, but had signed up for FFS membership that week. They predicted better returns for Baines so I changed my mind...haven't logged into FFS since! Getting the kane captaincy wrong the whole time, ditching sanchez early on before his big run and unbelievably not having a southampton defender up until about GW25, when I brought bertrand in for his red card also rank up there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,022 ✭✭✭✭Iused2likebusts

Best- captain aguero's 4 goal haul in the early kick off against spurs
Worst- costa not in the squad against palace announced before the end of the city game above meaning a few rivals got the armband moved from costa to aguero.

Last nights late goal conceded for Kos was probably the 2nd worst as those extra points were sorely needed in a couple of pay leagues.

Best: Nothing massively stands out, but a few contenders:
    Having Ivanovic from the start
Getting Pelle in at the perfect time
Cazorla's 34 points the week I brought him in.

Worst: The entire Christmas period, particularly my double up on Man City defence. Hart got rested, Zabaleta was absolutely useless.
They had easy fixtures, but conceded 2 in nearly every game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,262 ✭✭✭iroced

I'd have to "analyse" more thoroughly my season for a fairer answer but so far

    Best
    • Getting Silva in for City nice Christmas run. Associated with 3 great captain calls in a row (GW16 Hazard 28, GW17 Austin 34, GW18 Sanchez 20) this shot me up 130k positions up to 24k. I had a bad run which brought me down to 46k a few GWs later but I mainly stayed around 25k from that moment up to my recent rise to 12k. So that was a definite turning point in my season.
    • Getting Cazorla with my GW23 January WC and immediately giving him the armband for a 34 pts haul.
    • Going for Kane over Eriksen during my Jan WC.
    • I had Agüero captained for his 3 biggest scores but my overall captain failure this year will make me prioritise these 2 above moves I'm still pretty proud of :). I'm not allowing me the same credits for the Kane > Eriksen decision since I don't think anyone could have predicted Kane's revelation this year.

    Worst
    • There are the countless captain fails of course,
    • the premium def I couldn't get right (Baines, Zab, Jones, Berty, all at the wrong time despite them being largely expected to perform,
    • but ignoring DGW31 cost me 40 pts in a single GW.

    Best

Silva over nasri in late November for a relatively cheap price was a big call and shot me up the rankings. Similarly dumping fabregas for hazard early on even though fab was scoring well.

My third cheapie striker early got me off to a good start. I have had Naismith, berahino, Austin (who I also captained for his hat ruck) at the right times. I switched to Kane in January which was a bit later than some but not as late as others!

    Worst

Remy a few weeks back was shocking but I got away with it. I also had azpi at a couple of different stages and he promptly got sent off, dropped and injured in various games. I upgraded to jt then.

Loading up on Manu players early on did not work eg DDg, mata, Rooney. I did fx this quickly enough though.

    Best
having terry, haz and sanchez and boyd (who only played once)from the beginning
brnging in downing just when he got going and selling when others were still bringing him in.
    Worst
di maria kept swapping for sterling and both scoring when out of team
has to be Phil F*****G Jones disaster brought him in after corner duty in fa cup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,274 ✭✭✭✭FHFC

Lots of highs and lows as ever for me.

Key low points are the Pelle/Kane cock up on Jan wildcard which cost me 30 points in three weeks. Also managing to studiously have Silva for his poor runs and sell him before huge scores, all the more annoying as he's a favourite FPL player of mine.

I ignored the Villa / QPR DGW like many, but don't really regret that, I think the team I had was decent, just bad luck that all three viable DGW players went nuts. Should probably have had Austin at least as insurance I suppose.

The other stupid thing I did was the infamous captaining of RVP over Aguero in GW14 costing me 14 points, salt rubbed in the wound by reversing this in GW15 when Aguero blanked and RVP got 13!! All was well in GW15 though as the RVP gamble finally payed out after Agueros injury and my best ever score of 100(-4) and a GW rank of 236.

Other very satisfying things were getting Sanchez in before the masses and perfectly timing getting Aguero for the Spurs demolition in GW8. Left 8m in the bank on the WC to upgrade from Ulloa and waited till after the Argentina friendlies in China before bringing him in and captaining.

Also very please to have picked Albrighton for Leicester mid cover, his stats and form were good so nice to spot him and get rewarded with a great differential. Same went for those who picked N'doye for the Hull DGW, that was a nice spot too.

Without too much "what if", even the RVP (c) and the Pelle disaster cost me 44 points for things I really shouldn't have done and would have me well within the top 2k.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,810 ✭✭✭✭jimmii

Best: Easily GW8 1,262 for the week the only time I have had a GW rank in the top 20k this year and led to a ranking jump of over 900k! That started the come back only 9 red arrows since then.

Worst: The first 7 weeks and bouncing around with a 7 digit rank and GW32s 3.4m GW rank that really set things back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,886 ✭✭✭stephenl15

Best: Being 149 OR after captaining Austin for hattrick

Worst: This week. I captained Benteke over Aguero, effectively costing me a top 1k finish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,886 ✭✭✭stephenl15

Yes it did... Think if you hadn't captained him

One other highlight I can think of is bringing in Chambers in the weekend where he had a revelation of a game. Think he got a goal and an assist.

Captain Sanchez and Chambers for me that week. 50 points between them!! Scored 95 overall. Launched me onto my best run of the season and into top 1k.

    Good times!

As a relative newcomer to fpl I'm interested in hearing from some of the historians on here about past seasons, this is my third season and the top breakout players I can recall from each season are Michu, Ramsey and Kane, players who started under six million but put up 10m seasons. Who were others from the previous seasons to have a similar impact? Who do we think could be the ones to do it next year?

Charlie Adam at Blackpool had some season

Charlie Adam at Blackpool had some season
My first (half)-season playing the game. The BP system was done by 3 pundits IIRC and Charlie Adam was "guaranteed" 1 at least no matter what Blackpool were doing. You knew if they got a goal he'd be involved. What a legend he's been for a season :D.

The same season (2010-11), Andy Carroll had an astonishing first half of season before he moved to Liverppol at the very end of the January transfer window and buried down his career...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,251 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

Fellaini three years ago at Everton. Stephen Ireland at Man City one season. Yakubu at Blackburn. David Bentley at Blackburn. Demba Ba at Newcastle. Martin Laursen at Villa. Martin Petrov at Man City. Darren Bent at Charlton. Ashley Young while at Villa.

Siggy got 102 points after signing on loan in Jan in the 2011/2012 season.

Clint Dempsey also got 17 league goals in his 2012/2013, dont know his assists or total points, but he got a huge score. To put a bit of perspective on it the top goalscoring midfielders in the game this year are Sanchez with 16 and Hazard with 14

I remember a season when Richard Dunne played for Villa and all he had to do in the second half of the season was put on the jersey to get 3 bonus points.

    Morten Gamst Peterson.

What was that baldy fella used to play up front for Crystal Palace? Johnson, was it? Anyway, him.

Martin laursen was the BP king. He could get sent off in a 5 nil defeat and still doddle home with the 3 BPs.

I remember in my 1st season I had Thomas Sorensen in goal.
He saved about 4 penalties in the space of a couple of months!
That was back when Stoke used to keep clean sheets aswell.

Kane tbh. 4.8 when I got him earlier this year. No bargain basement price player has ever delivered so consistantly for so long.

Not in 05-06. Started at 7 mil iirc and ended the season at near 10. 9 goals and god knows how many assists.

As a Blackburn fan I had him from the start and he was huge for me that season.

Fair enough, as the resident Blackburn fan you'd remember! I can't remember specific seasons, just in general that he had a knack of going on a dry run when I had him and going nuts when I sold him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,810 ✭✭✭✭jimmii

There used to be players as low as 3m in the early days if they played they were obviously insane value. Steed Malbranque was another player who was good value for a season. I've played FPL since the start and I don't think a player has come close to what Kane has done this season. You often get players having breakthrough seasons but never they're normally already 6m. The 5m price range is meant for the no hopers!

  • Registered Users Posts: 129 ✭✭Liam2012

Seamus Coleman had a magnificent breakout season 2 years ago I think. Sterling's first year (2 years ago too?) was also memorable. Ramsey started off at great value last year too. But like others I think Kane this year has surpassed all others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,810 ✭✭✭✭jimmii

Siggy was another who was a 5.5m range bargain when he arrived. Kanes PPG is higher than (most peoples) purchase price I think its fair to say we won't see a player play as many minutes and do that for a long long time.

Gabby Heinze in his first season at Utd. I think it was 04/05. He wasn't first choice but got an extended run in the team due to injuries. He was reasonably cheap I think for a Utd defender. 5.0 or thereabouts.
