Protection for side of Garden Shed

On one side of my garden shed the horizontal T&G timber slats are damaged due to proximity of a large shrub which slightly brushes against it. I have treated the damaged timber with wood hardener which has held it together for the last few years. I want to prevent further damage but do not want to remove the shrub but will be cutting it back as far as possible. The problem area on the side of the shed is about 4 feet wide at most.

I would find it very difficult to replace the damaged slats so am looking for advice about how I can prevent further damage. I was wondering if it is possible to put some kind of protective sheeting between the existing timber and the shrub, for example some kind of waterproof material – either sheeting or specialised waterproof paint. I would want this to be as dark as possible as my shed is very dark brown.

Put up a sheet of light gauge galvanised steel. Shrub won't damage it and then paint it any colour you like.

Thanks sky6. That sounds like a good idea and not too expensive.
