No, your passport will get stamped at the border.

You don't need to apply for a visa if you are planning on visiting for less Han 90 days, and have no previous convictions or overstayed before. Your visa will be the stamp they give you on your passport when crossing the border.

Bring USD or a credit card at least for the visa waiver fee! Ended up having a weapon nearly pulled on me when I inadvertently illegally crossed the border to go to the currency exchange when going on a day trip to Seattle.

Also leave plenty early and go back as late as possible, we ended up being stuck at customs for 4 hours on the way down, had very limited time in the city.

Well the OP said tey were in Alberta so they'll probably visit further east.

The Blaine crossing in Washington State can be a hell of a wait.

But there's also three others. There's one a few miles to the east at Lyndon. But if you're already in the line at Blaine its hard to turn around.

There's a website with estimated wait times and cameras showing the queue's, as well as a dedicated radio station. You can also take a ferry or a train.

Well of course they'll probably gross a bit closer to where they're going! :D Just iterating how important it is to factor in waiting times. We were told half an hour max by Greyhound and spent half the day in the queue of busses, meanwhile some other bus company constantly whizzed past.

Not sure but it might also be good to check out do some bus companies get through faster than others if you're going the public transit route.
