Just a query about the bill paying service that participating retailers have at the counter - PayZone, whereby you can bring in various bills and pay them at the till.

I brought in an Electric Ireland bill to a partipating Centra and attempted to pay this bill.
I brought out my laser card and the person at the till refused.
They said I could only pay using cash.

I hadn't heard of this requirement before, so emailed PayZone.
    Heard nothing back whatsoever.

Do you think it's case whereby the retail shop can make these rules?

It wasn't a case whereby the laser reader was out of order, just that the shop won't allow bills to be paid with anything other than cash.

Might be because the shop would be charged a transaction fee for it but they're not making any money on it?

It could also just have been that one shop...

How does a sercive like PayZone actually make money?
I wonder what is the business model.

Why would a Centra bother with it if it provided them no extra revenue?
I suppose it brought me into their shop, so maybe they'll get some money that way.

I won't be re-visiting that particular Centra however (Westland Row)
