    Certainly one of the previous Directors in City Hall, who would have had a role in earlier "planning" processes, was a big GAA head.

    Given the reach of the GAA, and its widespread popularity, it wouldn't be surprising if a lot of Council officials were fans.

    It's the "planning" process that bothers me, and the nonsensical parking proposals. It seems the GAA just refused to, ahem, play ball with the Council "planners", and got away with it.

    The "planners" are treating the GAA with kid gloves. Maybe the GAA gets away with their antics because the stadium is painted in maroon and white, unlike some others we could mention.

    Designating the Swamp as a car-park is not advisable (it was mashed to mud during the Volvo Ocean Race finale iirc) and anyway is a scam imo. Neither the GAA nor the City Council nor AGS nor the fans have the slightest intention of doing anything other than the usual muppetry, which is to have as many people as possible park as close as possible to the stadium, even if this means obstructing every footpath, dished kerb, pedestrian crossing, bus stop, cycle lane and corner on every road in the vicinity. We've been here before, countless times.

    Puntastic!

    The thing is, if for some bizarre reason GCC permit this, it would set a precedent for other Council parks to be used for parking purposes.

    It's a done deal I'd say, planning was granted two or three weeks ago :confused:

    I think snubbleste means permission to use the Swamp for car parking.

    Actually, why not open up Salthill Park for car parking? Sure isn't it right beside the stadium, and it seems the desire of the majority is to avoid walking too far at all costs (or -- eeuw -- to take the bus).
