english team are more talented in the backs than forwards apparently, Packman & Tompkins especially.

Interesting stat that exiles have contributed more players to this team(4) than connacht & munster(2)
Tompkins is a real class act

Interesting that two former Irish exiles are playing with the English team, O Conor and Treadwell.

My young lad is interested in going to the match in Donnybrook tonight, are there likely to be tickets available on the gate?

There will be tickets there to buy

    So a 19-14 loss...
Scotland comfortably beating Italy 26-0 at the moment

Josh Murphy my man of the match. Tackle count was high, penalty count even higher.

Murphy was very good. The game was there to be won, did not think that it was the greatest England team that I've seen. Should have been further ahead at half time. Would not worry about playing them again.

Really thought Sam Arnold was outstanding such a gritty tough player , huge work rate , we really lost something when he came off I feel

I wonder if we will see some squad rotation? Timoney starting at 7 would be nice to see.

Murphy, Loughman, Heffernan look like save bets for the Leinster academy so far.

Didn't say he wasn't, Leinster are looking at both players as future tighthead props.
If Loughman can scrum at TH he is an excellent prospect, so far he is only proven at this level at LH. Heffernan has been better than I expected. Both are good enough for the academy.

Anybody know when the Fraser McMullen cup draw will be made?

Think these are the qualifiers based on league standings but there could be a debate over 4th place as I think there maybe a decider with the 4th place side and the Div2 winners?

    Leinster
    1. Terenure
    2. Dublin University
    3. Lansdowne
    4. UCD

    Munster/Connacht
    1. Cork Con
    2. Young Munster
    3. NUIG Corinthians
    4. Bruff

Would presume the top 2 in each region would have home quarter finals?

There wont be a draw if the competition goes ahead. It will be the winners of each league against 4th ranked in the other league and then 2nd v 3rd.

why would the competition not go ahead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,967 ✭✭✭✭The Lost Sheep

why would the competition not go ahead?
The Fraser McMullen and Munster-Connacht leagues are played off different eligibility dates. There has to be a compromise for the all Irelands to be played. Last season Leinster sides couldn't play those who were just underage for their competitions as the Munster-Connacht sides played 6 months younger age eligibility. IE to play in the Munster-Connacht you have to be born after 1/1/95 but in the Leinster JP Fanagan players are eligible if born after 1/7/94

no obvious lineout taker would be a concern neither 2nd rows are especially tall.

    Murphy is 6'6, Romaine 6'5. That's fine.

Murphy is also an excellent lineout player, he as been calling the lineout in all three games from 6 and has taken a lot of ball in the lineout. Not worried about lineout.

worry about the scrum, Thompson is at least 10kg heavier then Murphy, who is under 100kg and Wales have two huge locks pushing their scrum.

Frank Bradshaw Ryan is a 6"9 and 114kg lineout specialist and is still not getting a chance

not that surprising really as he wasn't in the initial squad named but he could get a chance in the final game or in the world cup..

id say he will make the munster academy anyway, 6'9 locks take awhile to develop and grow into their body.

Leinster have pretty regularly had at least one starter in the second row at U20

None have really translated to the senior team yet though.

Mark Flanagan(25/6'7) - impressing playing pro d2 after injury spell at leinster.
Ben Marshall(24/6'5) - squad player, more suited to 6, rumoured to be leaving.
Mick Kearney(23/6'5) - rumoured to be returning from Connacht.
Tadhg Beirne(23/6'6) - struggled hugely with injury, healthy now but leinster future unsure.
Alan O'Connor(22/6'5) - broke threw this year for Ulster, looks a good player.
Gavin Thornbury(21/6'8) - has had a good season for UCD, believe he is currently injured, needs more time to develop.
Ross Molony(20/6'6) - debuted for senior team this year, still needs to bulk up, but rated highly.
Stephen Gardiner(20/6'5) - playing AIL and played Ireland Clubs this year.

    Now this year there is
David O'Connor(19/6'5) - three starts, 1 bench appearance.
Josh Murphy(19/6'6) - 4 starts, 3 at 6 now starting at lock. Would need to put on a lot of weight(10+kg) to possibly play lock professionally.

Alan and David O'Connor are brothers aren't they?

Seen them both play this season very similar playing styles.

Wouldnt be surprised to see Ulster try to lure DOC up north if he fails to make Leinster academy.

Decent amount of quality 2nd rows available for the Irish 20's anyway.

Very scrappy opening 10 minutes. 3-3 but Wales look far more powerful but are making errors. We aren't making much ground in contact. Big hit from Loughman there prevented a try.

McCarthy hasn't started well. Threw a blindside pass on turnover to an unsuspecting lock who dropped it, nearly leading to a try.

Byrne a very sloppy start too. Didn't go 10m on the kick off and just missed touch from a penalty.

Referee very sharp around the pitch on offside and infringements in open play which is helping us.

EDIT: Ugh and line out thrown over the tail by McCall to nobody which Heffernan knocks on (which wasn't his fault at all).

Dardis is either under orders or low in confidence, he almost always goes for the kick unless he has no choice

And the one he didn't he concedes a penalty, all be it a slightly harsh one.

His opening kick was a stinker, far too long and aimless. Picked out a red jersey perfectly. Criticism also to his fellow back three players who didn't cover back and the return kick trickled way into our territory.

Byrne now carrying an injury and looks like he's struggling.

Really sloppy knock down from Murphy at a line out and McCarthy knocks on. Minor miracle it's still 3-3. Scrum Wales in our territory.

Making some awful basic mistakes here. Lineout has been a shambles so far

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

That's comically bad from us at the line out and ensuing ruck. We're being well beaten everywhere but the scoreboard.

More like it from Byrne with a nice touchfinder deep into their 22.

The hooker does not look at all comfortable at the lineout
