Is Tynan u18 or 19? , thought he was very impressive

It's not about having even numbers from all provinces , it's about picking the best players the selectors do far more analysis on these guys than you or I , it woul be worse if they picked guys in connacht or Munster just because of where they play over better players in other provinces

Roscrea and Belvedere both had 4/5 players called up to the squad most of which are reserves for the squad, Sweeney & De Jongh called up from Belvedere the squad while Egan,Jennings & O'Sullivan (4th year) on the reserves

I bet that it has never happened in the past that SCT in Leinster provides only 1 player to U18 squad. Also no Belvo player 2nd best team.
Selectors must base selection on hype they read on boards.ie

    St Michaels 6
    St Andrews 4
    CWC 4
    Rock 2
    Roscrea 1
    Ulster 3
    Munster 4
    Connacht 3

What 4 Andrews players ? Last year yes but no way this year !!

Johnny guy , one of their centres , Larmour and not sure who the fourth is

Dont believe that list. If you have the team reps you have the names so please by all means list them.
If thats true Munster have lost a lot of players since the christmas game, CWC didn't even have a leinster rep at u18 level this year.

Not sure on the legitimacy of the list but even so very unfair criticism of the Andrews players. Rarely if ever get representatives so to claim bias purely because the school is in Leinster is ludicrous.

The reality is there's a lot more rugby schools in Leinster than everywhere else. Odds are they'll have more representatives. Not always this disproportionate but it's not out of the question for it to happen.

You seem to be labouring under the illusion that you have been proved right.

Roscrea were never going to beat Belvo by 20 points as you suggested. Therefore, my friend, I have been proven right and you have been proven wrong.

Sweet Jesus, must sports threads always get reduced to this?

Guy and Larmour were in the team as under-17's so them being involved shouldnt be a surprise.

John Foley, from Munster is for sure in the squad, along with Guy.

you'd assume the majority of the squad is there, usually not many changes from christmas but the rumoured one would have a great deal of changes.

Which would be the players to look out for from that group ? And will they have the size in the pack to compete this year?

Roscrea's Tim Foley was extremely impressive throughout their campaign, as was Mike Sweeney for Belvedere. Jonny Guy is also a fantastic player. Don't really know enough about the players outside of Leinster to comment.

Sorry for what is probably a stupid question lads, don't really follow rugby, but what schools are allowed compete in the Junior/Senior cup teams? If the school I went to (which doesn't even have a rugby team) was to set up a rugby team and eventually built up a successful team would they be allowed to enter or would they have to work their way up or what way would it work?

Firstly what province are you referring to.
Any school is allowed to compete at Junior(Under 16) and Senior(Under 19)
    level.
If your school entered a team they would start at the lowest tier which is in Munster the Associate schools level, in Leinster Development schools, In Ulster ???? and Connacht development schools. They would enter competitions against other schools at that tier and would if good enough move up the tiers.
In Leinster schools move from Section A to B to C with the best schools regarded as having B/C gradings.
In Munster all schools start as Associate Schools and work up from C to B to A, which is the best ranking

Sorry Leinster is the province I was referring to but good to get information on the others as well, I remember a guy I knew who played for the local rugby team in town was considering moving to another school, however if he wished to play rugby for them he said he would have to quit his club team. Would this be common practice at the B/C grading schools? Presumably this is because the schools at this level are probably training as often as a club team so commitment to one or the other is required. I'm just trying to get a bit of an understanding on grassroots rugby, have found this thread interesting.

If you are in a cup squad you can not play clubs. (so 1st/2nd years can play club and school) if in 3rd year you are in the cup squad you do not play club.(but if you were on a team other than that you can continue to play both) same at senior level. if in TY/5th/6th year and not in cup squad you are free to play Club rugby.

If you attend one of the primary rugby schools depending on what level you play in the school you cannot play in youths rugby(clubs) competitions. Schools teams at the top level train much more than clubs in the main

But in some areas, mainly Dublin, most clubs do not compete in underage competition as a lot of the players they would use in such competitions are playing schools rugby

Im not referring to that particular piece. I am referring to his cynical and negative analysis over the years. I clearly remember where he referred to an alleged eye gouging incident involving a prominent Clongowes player about 5 years ago. Totally provocative trite. In his preview of this years SC final, he refers to the " potential weakness of the Roscrea kicker who had a four from 12 record. Lazy , lazy journalism as practically all of these kicks were from the left touchline for a left legged kicker. Reading this sort of rubbish journalism as a schools player is not helpful . The player in question actually went on to nail 2 crucial second half kicks . My point is , that when Cummiskey is writing about schools players he ought to remember that they are kids trying their best.

Hey ding dong you ought to remember that 4 or 5 of these lads played in hugely important games, in fact games that are of much more significance than a mickey mouse warm up game in Dundee. . And many of these boys are doing their Leaving Cert chasing 500+ points. Many of them are at boarding school where they havent been home for a month or more. They led 10-3 at htime and understandably got tired and disjointed in the second half when many switches were made. So before you give your silly throwaway remarks just give it a little thought. These guys are 17-18 year old kids giving of their best in trying circumstances.

    Small bit OTT rughug...
Why not send a mixed team of clubs and schools players to play FIRA then... Its a fair enough point to say its a poor result. As for the boarding school comment....
