Apologies its not from The Sun

If Smalling plays 20+ games this season I’ll go naked in Brown Thomas window.

Jones might get a few more but I can guarantee he’ll give away at least 3 penalties before Christmas and this board will be calling for new CBs in January

    Bookmarked!

What point are you trying to make here with that pic?. Phil jones has not improved since he came to the club. Its not an opinion, its a fact.he is very clumsy, dives in and has a habit of injuring himself as well as team mates and opponents.

We signed a hard work horse defender and his courage is to be commended, but at the moment he is as raw as he was when we signed him. Maybe Van Gaal and his coaching staff can finally sort him out but please dont belittle somebodys view on him (as that whay gif based replies are normally designed to do) when said view is spot on and realistic.

It is not spot on. Jones shows a lot more than just jumping around and injuring himself. It was a ridiculous description of his performances and fully worthy of a face palm.

I agree that Jones and Smalling's development has stalled in their time at the club, but there is a very obvious and simple explanation for why.

I'd love to see that, there'll be feck all money for him if sold, so better if he could be used somewhere useful on the pitch.

I mentioned that a few weeks back and got laughed outta here! Player might not wear it either I suppose.

I could see him doing a better job than Carrick in an emergency but probably not what we should be looking at, really should get a specialist in.

will struggle if we keep up with this complete lack of protection and flat, static back 5 shape.

Would 1 or 2 pacey CB's enable us to push the 2 WB's forward? A little more positional awareness from the WB's?

Tactically what's the reasoning for it? Lack of pace and playing deep? Or was it just LoLpool forcing us back? Was this only noticeable in the final?

A little more time to adjust to the formation re positioning for the CB's?

From what I noticed from the pool game midfield didn't offer too much protection, a few sloppy balls by Fletcher et al.

What I'm wondering really is, if say, we sign Vidal and cover for the defense is this still going to be a major issue?

Agreed, and if we are not bringing in experience in the form of Vermalen we need to do something else....

    And quick

Agger is looking to get out of Liverpool, just saying!

I think Liverpool are mad getting rid of Agger I think he's their best centre half.

Daley Blind is probably the one target at the moment who I reckon we are mad not to be interested in. He covers 3 positions we need cover for.

If we got him, Cuadrado and a CM I think we would be doing very well. Those being the most talked about players and positions at the moment.

Messing aside he's a nice footballer who I think would step up into midfield really well in a back three.

Not every game mind you, but he will def be filling in there a good few times i reckon.

He ended up playing there when we had 5 center backs and only played 2 in there. Now with 3 at back plus departures and injury proned defenders, you would assume the odds are shorter now of him playing there.

Perhaps a better way of putting it is that Keane and Blackett will see alot of game time this year.

    It's on!

Fiorentina president Andrea Dalla Valle has confirmed that the club would have to accept an 'important' offer for Juan Cuadrado and he expecting one to arrive.

Once again Manchester United and Barcelona are reportedly battling over a player, but unlike with Thomas Vermaelen who is heading for the Nou Camp, the Colombian is said to be Old Trafford-bound

Where would Cuadrado play? Would he be one of the wing backs or on the right of midfield?

    Can play both.

He seems to cover a variety of positions tbf, but would not be overly excited about the signing.

I'd prefer his signing over Vermaalans', know what you mean, but think he'd be an improvement on Nani.

From the little I've seen of him he looks like a somewhat skillful version of Valencia?

Appatently there is some press thing on now on MUTV and Mark Ogdan has said the following-
1-No chance of De Jong signing for us.
    2-Definate interest in Daley Blind.
3-Club still remaining quiet on Vidal and everything being driven by international media.

1-No chance of De Jong signing for us.

That's a shame imo, he'd have been a really good signing imo. There's nobody in the squad who plays like him.

What about 433, could certainly do with a bit of pace in the front 3.

Who from Mata, Rvp and Rooney would be dropped then?

Is this Cuadrado rumor true or is it media hype again

Who says one of them needs to be?
Rooney on left mata In centre rvp up top. Cuadrado on right.

Cant say I have ever paid too much attention to him, he seems to be able to cover anywhere along the right hand side, central midfield and even more advanced and from the left :)

I think he had a good world cup, bit of a headless chicken about him I thought and as I said, I wouldnt be overly excited but obviously I wont have seen as much of him as Van Gaal for instance Im sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,559 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

I wouldnt be too pushed getting Cuadrado,it still doesn't alleviate the main problems in the squad,CB and CM.Blind and Vidal and a CB(no idea who) would really fix a lot of the issues imo.

    Rooney----Van Persie

    Mata

    Shaw--Carrick--Herrera--Cuadrado

    ----Evans---Smalling---Jones

    De Gea

    Not too shabby a team.

Will happily see Caudardo in for 40m if that's the price to get rid of Valencia's automatic first team spot :pac:

    Rooney----Van Persie

    Mata

    Shaw---Vidal---Herrera---Valencia

    De Gea

I would be more than content with this starting line-up with Carrick, Chico, Kagawa and Januzaj et al for cover, it's the defensive subs I worry about...:(

The thing is, I kind of want it to be good more than I think it will be good. Smalling has lost a lot of faith I had in him the last 2 seasons. Jones will be great for United but he's not there yet and I think Evans is great. I wouldn't mind those 3 being given a run at it until January though, by then a 4-3-3 might be on the cards but at the very least a right back and a centre back need to be signed imo.

The same myself but it's Jones I'm losing faith in. I think Smalling can turn it around in a regular backline, I think this setup will suit him. He looked to be assured and comfortable on the ball before he was shunted out to the right and the calamity of last season.

I'd like to hang on to Jones and see if he develops a bit better technically but at the moment I don't think he has the ability to play in the way he will be expected.

The money being quoted for Caudardo is insane, £36m wud take our spending to £130m this year yet there still wud be at least 3 massive gaps in our first 11.

Not bad for a club desperately trying to cut wages, though :pac:

I've said all along that we are signing Vidal. The offer was made today...45 bar sterling. It's on like Donkey Kong.

Is Caudrado link for real or just a case of his club trying to pump up his value to sell him to another side?

I have not read anything so far that suggests he is a player United are actually chasing.

Has anyone come across a good story or link suggesting its a likely transfer?

As it stands (excluding more potential exits ) our wage bill is down £30-£34m on the projected financial commitment given in our last financial update. With Ando, Fellaini and Nani all linked with moves out, that wage bill could drop even further.

All we have had anywhere this summer is reports from the other team's side, and seems to be the same again. None of the usual credible United sources have had anything unique on it, but it's been that way all summer. Reckon we are interested though. Seems to be too much smoke without there being some sort of fire.....

Blind and Benatia would cost around 45m going by the reports much better use of the money than 36m on Caudardo. Those to would solve a few of our problems.
