That was the point of the post.

Not really sure what your point is here to be honest. Are there other factors that can be involved in a player getting caught offside? Of course there are.

But the OP said that as RVP loses pace this is having an effect on his "offside" rate. To which posters replied that pace does not affect offsides. Well, of course pace affects your chances of getting caught offside, because if you lose a yard of pace you need to play right on the line to compensate.

I really don't see the debate here.

Kitbag, who run the United store, seem inclined to void all the mis-priced orders.

That's a kick in the stones! Hopefully united bite the bullet and hold there hands up and honour the mistake!

It's better for the fans if they cancel the orders - that's all money that could be used to buy Ronaldo back. :pac:

Even with the mistaken price, they'll still be making a profit.

How much would you say each jersey costs to make? >€10 I'd say.

I was a bit skeptical at first about his price tag, but after watching him last night I am extremely excited about Ander Herrera

They should do it to troll Nike since Nike will get less money

Now if Welbeck could add that kind of lethal finishing to his game, on a consistent basis. I'd be very happy.

Big test for him against Roma and Madrid. When are those games on, anyone know?

All the talk about RVP and his offside rate is fairly nonsensical unless someone actually provides stats that show a change in said offside rate.

"Look how often he was offside at the World Cup" - is that for serious?

He was tired or injured or both at the WC.

in fairness to Herrera, there is nothing he can do about the price tag and seeing as bilbao don't usually buy outside of the basque region he was always going to be a high price, added to the fact he is already an excellent player, with huge potential to improve

This isn't unusual, there are dozens of high profile incidents that take place accross big brands every year, that cancel orders during a misprice.
Be a pretty big PR win if they let these jerseys go out at a reduced rate, but can cause just as much bad press for fans who couldn't avail of the offer.

There is also loads of posts around a few football forums of lads who put in massive bulk orders, with the sold intention to flip for profit : /

TBF, I can see the point of the OP, but to an intelligent player like RvP, his experience that comes with age might see him caught offside even less. And I don't think RvP has lost that much pace since he first joined United.

Being caught offside has too many factors to put it down to losing pace. Maybe the players playing the ball weren't up to speed with RvP, delaying the pass a split second longer than what he's used to.

From NBC Sports website, RvP was caught offside once every 72 minutes last season, once every 68 mins the season before, and once every 83 mns before that. I could keep going but there really isn't any pattern to prove the as age increases, you'll get caught offside more.

De Gea, Rafael, Jones, Evans, Smalling, Shaw, Herrera, Mata, Januzaj, Welbeck, Chicharito are all first team regulars at ages (26 or significantly less in some cases), where you would expect them to improve significantly over the coming years. A fair chunk of the first team squad.

Being caught offside means your losing pace? There a plenty of reasons for being offside. That's a ridiculously poor piece of evidence to back up your point with.

We had significant success when all the following players we "on their downward curve".

Vidic (32), Rio (35), Evra (33), Carrick (33), Giggs (40), Scholes (38, when he stopped). Did those players not contribute to a significant amount of success over the last 3 to 4 seasons?

Your entire argument is completely flawed. We have plenty of players who will improve. You need experienced players at times. Players don't suddenly become incapable because they are "on a downward curve".

    A healthy mix is necessary.

Jones/Smalling/Rafael/Chicarito may be regulars but are they getting better? No.

Also I never said they didn't contribute success...my whole point was that we need to sign players for now and not players for the future as some of our players are on downward curves.

Look at Arsenal, going for potential....remember Dunphy saying they would dominate? Yeah....they stayed a team of potential and won nothing.

RVP was offside 15 times at the world cup. Over twice as many as the next and also gave away the most fouls in the tournament behind Fellaini (so2nd highest). And considering Brazil v Columbia that's quite an achievment!

About 10 of them came against a well drilled Costa Rican defensive unit.

Ah come on....some of the offsides were shockingly bad.

When do people expect RVP to stop banging in 25 league goals a season then?

Are you just saying that rvp is old and slow and just judging it off being offside?

Might as well just go with his fifa stats, would be more accurate than pulling it out of your arse.

15 times in 6 games? So an average of 2.5 times a game. That's hardly spectacular. Also how many strikers played 6 games including extra time twice?

That's like saying Chico runs offside many times and he himself is still able to produce a decent goal return.

I remember seeing a game in the 90s where Alan Boksic was caught off-side 17 or 18 times in one match for Juventus.

As I said above, 15 times in 6 games including 2 periods of extra time. An average 2.5 times a game. Plenty of strikers are offside 5-6 time every game.

    True dat. :-)

Anyways it doesn't mean much...was just saying RVP could be declining and that losing some pace might mean he tries to cheat behind the defence.

    Next topic. :D

    Nani anyone? :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

Holland playing on the counter, with a preference to fire balls into RVP or Robben in space.

Seperating the fact Van Persie has spend most of his career playing of the shoulder of the last defender, despite his lack of pace, it's in no way a negative reflection on him that he was caught offside so many times.

Some of them though were down to fatigue, he looked wrecked by the end of it, and there was a few instances he wasn't getting back onside quick enough.

But it's in no way a talking point on anything to be fair. Van Persie never had pace as a major asset, and would frequently always operate on the last defender.

RVP wasnt fully fit for the world cup and also picked up a dose of the trotts during the tournament.

I think people are putting 2+2 together and getting = old!

Still better than wherever you are.

Seriously though depending on the team style and number of appearances he can perform to a high level for 2/3 seasons imo. Can see him not dragging out the career either and moving to coaching young.

A Manchester United spokesperson told IBTimes UK: "United Direct, the Club's Official Online Megastore, which is run by our e-commerce partner Kitbag, sent out communications which contained details of an erroneous discount code to our fans around the globe - this offer has now ended.

"United Direct will honour all consumer orders placed using this discount code, an approach which is fully endorsed by the Club."
