Just sign up at link below. Dirt cheap for access to the pre-seasons games so far as well as Madrid and Valencia.

    We still need midfielders.

That's in a pre-season friendly. He's going to end up knocking out a fourth official in the Premier League.

    Interesting

He didn't say he want to try, he said he wanted to try.
"I know him from Borussia Dortmund and he played in the no.10 position," van Gaal added. "I wanted to try him in the no.6 or no.8 position in our system in the first two matches, and then I also gave him a chance at no.10 because he wanted to play in that position. He did it much better than in the two matches before."

Im really starting to think Utd are finished looking at CM to buy untill Strootman in January. Especially with that comment on trying Kagawa in that position.
LVG is defenitly looking to bring in a defender or two as he said, but i think Herrara is going to be the only CM signing this summer.

I didnt see game last night but apparently Shaw was training before the game and wasnt supposed to be playing. An injury forced the change at half time. He wasnt originally on the bench.

    From Man Utd.com - http://www.manutd.com/en/Tour-2014/Tour2014News/2014/Jul/louis-van-gaal-hails-manchester-united-win-over-inter-milan-as-best-performance-so-far.aspx?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=ManUtd#
Van Gaal hails "best match so far"

Louis van Gaal felt Manchester United’s performance in beating Inter Milan on Tuesday was the best of his three games in charge so far.

The Reds overcame the Italian outfit 5-3 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes in Washington DC, to stay top of the International Champions Cup group with five points. Van Gaal made eight changes at the break but both his sides were dominant in defence, with goalkeepers Anders Lindegaard and David De Gea virtual spectators.

"I am very pleased," the manager said. "I think we played by far the best match of our sequence of three.

"They only had one shot on our goal and that was given by the referee [a free-kick], but I think we also created six or seven chances, so then it is seven against one.

"I was very pleased with our ball possession; it was much better than the other matches. And I think also the positions were better covered.

"So I was tonight very pleased with the performance of my players, both in the first half and the second half."

United were successful with all five spot-kicks in front of 61,000 fans in the US capital and van Gaal admitted the squad had been working on them in training.

"We practised penalties yesterday and also the sequence," he said. "That is why De Gea was our goalkeeper in the second half, because he is the best of the four at penalties.

"Fletcher hit the post in training so it's also a little bit of luck, but we deserved the victory."

And the FootyRoom hightlights, excellent penalties - http://footyroom.com/manchester-united-0-0-inter-milan-2014-07/

I'll say it again, he doesn't have this luxury. He wants to wait and promote youth players and thats a noble goal but he simply doesn't have the foundation in the first team that will allow it to happen. Of course we want the manager to think long term, but you can't think long term until the short term is secure and if LVG thinks he can go into the season with Cleverley/Fletcher et al then he is going to be in trouble, because the LVG love affair won't survive finishing outside the top four again and thats what will happen.

The idea of converting Kagawa into a deeper midfield role is intriguing if he can pull it off.

    Matagawa!!

I said it before I reckon our midfield signings could be done until Strootman and I reckon a deal for him is probably all but done on the QT.

Defensive numbers are the immediate priority anyway.

Just watched it there and we were much the better team. I think Inter only had one decent shot on target (from a free kick) and that brought a great save from DDG. We dominated possession and knocked it around with as much conviction as I've seen in a few years that they started reminding me of Barca's tiki-taka at times. Would liked to have seen a few more chances created (we created around 4-5 decent opportunities) but to their credit Inter played well defensively (Vidic especially).

All United penalties were all unstoppable - made a big change from that horror show against Sunderland last year!

GIF of all 5 penalties - shortened because Kagawa stood frozen for ages because their keeper was calling his shot to his left - where he smashed it in anyway ;)

    1. Young
    2. Hernandez
    3. Cleverley
    4. Kagawa
    5. Fletcher

I think if Utd are holding out to sign Strootman in January or next summer then De Jong would be an excellent signing this window and something I hope Utd are looking at(although you do get the feeling there may not be any more CMs coming in this window)

I know hes not everyone cup of tea but, if we arent going for a high profile signing I think he would be a fantastic addition to the squad and indeed the first 11, especially with the talk of trying Kagawa in a deeper roll.

I've been really impressed with Blackett on this tour so far.

Noticable improvements with the team already, really is incredible how quick things can turn around. We were really controlled in possesion, even in the second half.

Nani going on and then coming off 20 minutes later doesn't look good, unless it's something that was agreed earlier in terms of maybe managing him after WC or something?

Herrera was excellent again. Him, Mata and Rooney building up a lovely understanding.

Cleverly showed some moments of " yeah there he is". Driving through midfield and getting forward. Now stream I was watching was grainy might have been Fletcher :)

Kagawa did well, but it's so rough for him. Obviously he was playing with two in front of him that arnt strikers, so he was never going to really shine. But he dropped deeper into midfield to get things going and he did well. There could be something in terms of playing him in CM.

But he just seems to be constantly a square peg in a round hole. Not only did RVP's arrival scupper his purpose for purchase, Mata has completely made him irrelevant.

As much as I like him and think he is a slick operator, I think it might be high time he moves on, for his own benefit.

I must have missed the part where Van Gaal said he wouldn't buy more players this summer.

I noted his words as good reasons for a delay and thought they were acceptable for why he would hold off on signings to fill out the squad or improve the team. I am sure everyone wants signings by the end of the window.

I must go back and read his words again to see how I missed him saying he wouldn't buy anyone, I have a feeling I will be looking for a long time to find it.

the fact that we are talking about signing De Jong, with the season 2 weeks away just sums up our summer window to be honest - i doubt very few if any fans would have had him on their wishlist in May. all things considered however, at this late stage if Vidal is not coming, id be ok to accept de Jong as a back up but its poor that its coming to this.

im still convinced that Van Gaal is really being honest when he says he is going to focus on youth and my low expectations are getting lower now. was expecting 3 players, but i think we will only sign one before the season now (still believe it will be Vermaelen) and then perhaps one more late in the window.

cant believe the club is letting this happen yet again though if Vidal comes in it would certainly lift the quality and mood regarding transfers.

You know that these "four journalists" hang around with each other and socialise on events like this.

It's not unusual for one opinion to sway the others, or for some to think the other has more accurate information.

Just because they all have the same "list" doesn't make it true. It doesn't take a genius to figure out in fairness who our exits might be.

Again I'd stress this summer has been evidence there is a strong media blackout between the club and the journalists we used to directly discuss transfers with.

I think people seem to tailor their opinion on papers and journalists to suit their narrative.

One minute they are rubbish that know nothing, now that a few have the same story, they are gospel.

I'm confused, at what point do papers run a totally INDEPENDENT story that the others arnt running in terms of transfer gossip.

haha just a phrase, the press were clearly briefed the other day that Fellaini, Kagawa, Nani and Anderson were available for transfer.

well its obvious that Anderson is up for sale and perhaps they were briefed alright about Fellaini.

as has been stated many times, sending Fellaini on loan makes zero sense and there is no point getting rid of him from an area where we are already struggling for both quality and quantity. the only point i could see here is that somebody else is coming in, but i doubt it.

unless he was injured last night, Nani is in big big trouble and sadly could be on the way out :(

on the basis of the others leaving, i think Kagawa is safe enough.

How would I have evidence to the contrary? You take nothing as fact so until its confirmed on the official website I take it?

Not having a go at you, but you can normally tell when a story is BS and when it has some validity to it, when the same 4/5 journalists all have the same list of players it strikes me that soomeone at the club has briefed that they are available for whatever reason, maybe to drum up some interest. Already looks like fellaini is off to Napoli as per reports in Italy today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,001 ✭✭✭Backstreet Moyes

Is Marek Hamsik a number 10 or does he play deeper these days. Could be used in a deal with Napoli for Fellaini.

the main non player related highlight is the return of our intensity, work rate and desire, the players look afraid to let the manager down and this bodes well for the new season
