Paying vrt with uk license

    Hi folks

I know I have to pay vrt if I'm bringing in a car from NI. My question is do I need to straight away? The reason I ask is I am thinking of moving back to the uk in about 9 months, have a uk license but need a new car. I mainly live in Ireland, maintain bank account in uk but couldn't really say I live there. I currently have a fully taxed, insured irish car.

Sorry if this is a daft question or has been answered before

    Cheers for any help.

You would have to pay VRT. You can reclaim some of the VRT when you export though (Revenue keep €500 of the VRT figure, note that obviously the VRT figure in 9 months would be less anyway due to depreciation)

Not worth it IMHO. You can claim a vrt refund on the way out but there's a hefty "admin" fee as already mentioned.

Can you not keep your existing Irish car going for the 9 months?
