http://www.seai.ie/Grants/Electric_Vehicle_Grant_Scheme/EV_Grants/How_do_I_get_a_grant/ Grants are run on a first come/first serve basis until 31st December 2014 or if funds are exhausted before this time. Does this mean there is no way of getting a discount if importing privately?

Grants are run on a first come/first serve basis until 31st December 2014 or if funds are exhausted before this time.

Does this mean there is no way of getting a discount if importing privately?

Whatever grants were available would have been claimed at first registration in whatever country the car was first registered.

You still get the VRT discount.
