Not sure if this is in the right section but I have an idea for an app but I don't know how to develop. The idea is that I would contact a developer about my idea for an app and they would build it etc.. Thanks

Not sure if this is in the right section but I have an idea for an app but I don't know how to develop.

The idea is that I would contact a developer about my idea for an app and they would build it etc..

What you are exactly looking for? An App developer? or someone who can discuss with you to evaluate the idea? or you are worried if you discuss with a developer, he/she may steal your idea?

Don't know why you're complaining; you got the advice you sought. Not my problem if it sounds like too much like hard work. If so, and that is and remains your attitude towards getting your 'idea' off the ground, I can pretty much guarantee that it will get nowhere in life or anywhere else.

Super - you'd not get away with it on other forums on here fortunately.

It wouldn't be necessary on most other fora, because you don't get a constant stream of "I've got an idea" threads from people looking to get into the app gold rush, who don't even know what they want to do because they'd done absolutely no groundwork, not even a simple Google search, before cluttering up the technical fora.

Don't be so snobbish about ideas - some of them might actually turn into something and prove you wrong

Don't confuse realism with snobbishness.

The advice that's given out here and in other technical fora may seem harsh at times, but if ignored, I can guarantee that we won't be proven wrong or at least that they will end up learning the hard way before they get anywhere.

Ultimately, success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, so when someone comes here and gets upset that the lack of the latter is pointed out, they're rightly going to be treated with a healthy dose of contempt.

S/he didn't say that at all. S/he did, however point out that there are many similar threads (even if the OP was just taking the mickey), each with lots of advice for people in the same boat.

The general theme of that advice is just having the idea is so close to worthless (and pointless). It's about bringing it to life (only one aspect of which is developing it). Most "I have an idea" people haven't done any work at all on the idea; again, worthless.

In my experience, that "most" is over 97% of callers in the last 13-ish months (since I started tracking).

If you check back through The Corinthian's posts on this forum (where s/he's not a mod, by the way), you'll see a lot of very valuable professional advice for free.
