Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I had expected Bree to start but Bjarnason to miss out.

Am I having a really stupid moment or should I know who Davis on the bench is?

Young striker from the U23 team. He seems to be making the squad now that Hepburn-Murphy is refusing to sign a contract.

A midfielder showing both strength and an eye for a pass. We normally on get one of the two

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,444 ✭✭✭basillarkin

green adomah and lansbury have all started brightly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Honestly that is some of the worst defending you'll see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 838 ✭✭✭rebelomar

    Bad judgement from Chester

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

2 men running in the back there. Stupid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Honestly, Messi, Suarez and Ronaldo could have been the signings in this window. We'd still be sh*t. Can't even say this is a good performance past the first 10 minutes when we were all filled with more false hope.

How long until the gelling excuses start...

if kodja tucks away his easy chance, we would be talking about a different game. we have problems all over the side unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,791 ✭✭✭✭JPA

    That midfield offers no protection.
We'll need Jedinak playing every game to make it work.
    Bring back Westwood!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

whole new midfield and same issue. No support for Kodjia. Everytime we clear it, it's booted up the pitch and comes straight back.

Compound it with **** defending and you have what we see here

Kevin Toner gone out on loan to League 1. Surely we need centre backs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

All over the place for 2nd part of that half. Look like a team who have started 3 new players in midfield unfortunately. Can't understand how a pretty consistent appearing defence can be dragged around like that, Hutton and Chester big culprits in that half.

That's must have been the 5 mins per 90 that Villa midfield looks good.

Scott Hogan's just come out of the tunnel and sat on the Brentford bench.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

    Right we are Leeds.

How do you concede the same goal twice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 838 ✭✭✭rebelomar

Mother of God.. Kodjia and Adomah rolling around on the ground while we go three down...

Bruce has got his work cut out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Honestly Bruce should be considering his own position after this. Xia bringing everything he can to the table. What is Bruce bringing to the table?

When does he ever make positive changes when they're needed, rather than when it's too late to impact the game?

Could just slink away from football. Sure there's enough depressing stuff out there to put my hat on.

I'd genuinely consider scrapping the big money transfers, sack Bruce and postpone the rebuild until the end of the season.

Had Xia not put so much January investment into the team, this would be Bruce's final game. I'm sure of it.

GAA is back this weekend, never craved the Allianz League so much.

At least we're in Ireland watching from a safe distance. Imagine trapsing up and down the country to watch that ****e.

I've done it with Bohs but they've never been bad as that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,791 ✭✭✭✭JPA

It's very hard to maintain any enthusiasm for this.

The signings seem good but the balance needs took be right.
Hourihane is an attacking midfielder and Bjarnsson is a winger from what I understood?
Lansbury is a creative midfielder who can look after himself but has always been a player to push forward.

So that team tonight was in serious trouble as soon as they started closing down Lansbury.
The other 2 are not ball winners.
As Westwood and Tsishbola were let leave a defensive midfielder to challenge/back up Jedinak should have been signed.

I'm lucky, 3 mins walk to watch the tripe getting served up at Dalymount. Not sure I'd walk 3 mins to VP these days.

Brentford didn't miss their star striker too much tonight. I wonder if he'll make more of a difference for us? After tonight, I'd have my doubts.

In order to score, especially away from home you have to create chances in the final third. That takes bravery and our players always take the easy option.

I posted concerns last night that we had made too many signings and that it might take time to gel. Bruce went all in tonight with a totally new midfield and after a decent start they went out of it and lost all shape. We were chasing shadows all night.

The defence will rightly get pelters after that. Johnstone is a liability and looked shot by the end. Baker and Chester had me wondering if Elphick and Richards might be worth a go.
Hutton almost got ahead of the Brentford players for the first two goals. Hats off for the comical backpass too.
Amavi is regressing so far that it's amazing to think Liverpool were looking at him very recently.

Playoffs a dream too far and Bruce and Calderwood have a lot of work on. The post match interview was not very encouraging in that he didn't seem to know why the players didn't turn up tonight. New signings heads dropped in unison with the rest and nobody on the pitch or the sideline took the game by the scruff of the neck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

For me that goes in with the Norwich (A), Leeds (A), Cardiff (A), Wolves (A) in the reasons why Bruce shouldn't be the manager next season.

There's absolutely no benefit to sacking him while the season is still ongoing so I'd give him every chance to improve but really he looks like a dud who is living off nowt other than excuses and reputation.

I don't think excuses about teams gelling etc hold any weight when you've spent more than probably the bottom half of the table combined.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,791 ✭✭✭✭JPA

Bruce has always been a limited manager but the Championship is supposedly where he excels. No sign of it yet and no defined formation or team structure..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

It'd be easier to take if there were a game we'd lost and been unlucky or not performed awfully. What solace can you take from those kinds of games?
