I think it's a case of giving the players who didn't get a shot on Saturday.

Does that mean Gabby will start again as he didn't really have a shot on Saturday ? :p

Interesting to see the lineup tomorrow. I'd be inclined to start a strong team. It's an extra games gelling for a new squad for the league, which has to be a priority at the moment.

I hope to see a reasonably full strength team designed to get some of the new players / players coming back from injury up to fitness.

Start Kozak, Vertout, Ayew, Gil and maybe Grealish or Traore

In defence it's a tougher call because do we try the same again to help them build an understanding or start Crespo (if fit) or Baker to get them some game time.

WB let Lescott go on free.

We still in for him or what ?

Didnt we have 1 Million offer turned down for him last month.

I thought he just signed a contract?

SSN has him out the door.
    LESCOTT FREE TO GO

Sky sources understand West Brom have said that Joleon Lescott can leave as soon as they sign another defender.

Aston Villa have had a £1m bid turned down for the defender last month but we believe they, as well as Sunderland, are still keen to sign him.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 10,842 Mod ✭✭✭✭artanevilla

That doesn't necessarily mean any club who wants him won't have to pay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Ya it won't be on a free definitely I don't think.

Would be surprised if he went anywhere else but Villa though. Will be a good signing though, despite his age. Too questionable in defence at the moment with Okore's injury and Clark showing a few worrying signs.

A striker of a goal poaching kind is definitely needed, we've plenty of these wing/strikers in the squad and need someone more specialised up there. I'd certainly take Austin if the finances were available. I think it's a glaring hole in the team at the moment and would vastly improve to have someone of decent quality up there.

Doesn't Gabby have a history of scoring against Sunderland?

That's the position Ayew played in first 2 games.

But not the position he has played most of his career, whereas Traore has always been a winger, are you literally basing your knowledge of the players on a 20min game and two games for Ayew, cause well thats crazy and you need to take a step back and actually look at the players not just jump in with random nonsense

At the same time, I don't think it's ridiculous for him to consider that Sherwood might keep playing him in the same position he's played him in so far. Anything but.

For me, I see it as a way to ease him into the league, which has happened to a lot of fast players. Their makes no sense to play a cf over a proper rw on the rw if both start

Ayew has been playing on the left. Sinclair on the right.

No, it's based on hunch I have after Sherwood's comments on him being a strong, hand full of a player at a press conference.

I can still see Sherwood using Gestede as a focus point of the attack (Maybe Kozac getting a few cameos, or even that Adebayor-like player you're looking for) but that Traore will play a lot more forward a role than say Sinclair or Grealish would br asked to. Basically replacing Gabby.

There's something about Ayew I haven't warmed to, I think it's something as illogical as his face. There's something of a baby to his face that just reminds me of Gabby, and something petulant about them. His dive against Utd was comical too.

In contrast Bacuna, Amavi, Gueye and Traore all seem to play with huge smiles that makes me think of Yorke.

CSF - almost certain Sinclair has been playing left side, working with Amavi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

Sinclair has been playing on the left ayew on the right. Ayew swapped to the left against united after Sinclair went off

He is a trouble maker. Even the way he forced his move out of France it was obvious. I was reading him and Boateng were the centre of the strike during the world cup as well.

Adem Ljajic being linked again today but as he isn't a CF I dunno if thats likely though i'd still be happy to see him sign.

More likely though is the Kozak to Celtic link that has also surfaced today, think he would do well there and he may be one Villa can actually move on as it doesn't look like anyone wants N'Zog, Tonev etc

The reports from journalists who have watched him in France say that he's nothing special and probably won't live up to the transfer fee. Hopefully they are wrong.

I think Ayew should be given a lot more time than that in fairness, I don't know why some get excited for signings only to chop them down after less than 3 games in a new league. Don't mean here but it's the same on places like VT, some threads become insane.

Reading interview with Lambert today, and to add what he's been saying over the past few months, he's become quite the bitter man. Saying that he 'has to laugh' with the money that Villa have spent this summer, completely ignoring the fact that it's been funded by sales of players. Maybe if he had managed the team properly he might have made his own transfer funds.

As I said it's an irrational, illogical dislike I've developed for Ayew. But Amavi, Gueye, Traore and Veretout have me delighted.

    Amavi

He better not do anything as stupid as Saturday again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,557 ✭✭✭LeBash

Richards and Amavi are the only 2 to show anything yet. Adama as he's calling himself has had 1 run so it's way to early. If you only saw Lowton goal against Stoke you'd say he was good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

Gana has overall been pretty good too

No of course and I didn't mean anyone in particular. It's just an interesting thing with new players that some seem to be given shorter time than others. There has to be a balance too, because god love us if we give players as much time as Gabby has been given.

I think Amavi and Gueye will be big successes, that's just from early signs of course. Richards has been excellent too.

It's hard to know how long to give players. Look at someone like Petrov, who took a year to get going but was then our main midfielder for years after.

Then you have certain other players who can burst onto the scene have 1 great year but then get found out as other players get used to their style

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Few mutterings from Alan Nixon, a reasonably respected journalist, that Villa are in for Afobe of Wolves but Norwich have offered best package so far.

Also Easah Suliman, 17yo defender, is apparently in the squad for tonights game. He was the guy that Bayern and a few other clubs were supposedly sniffing around last year.

Metro (what a terrible source I know) & apparently Rome newspaper Il Tempo now saying we have agreed a fee with Roma for Ljajic.

Weirdly I also read earlier that we bid for Gervinho at Roma but didn't offer enough but I've a feeling if that happened it was earlier in the summer.

Think he could play the no.10 role for Villa but it's the no.9/CF we really need. That said would be a great signing imo

would also mean 2 players for every midfield position: RW (Adama, Ayew) LW (Grealish, Sinclair) CM1(Gana, Veretout) CM2(Westwood, Sanchez) AMC (Ljajic, Gil)

Huh, I was quoting his team of Ayew on right and Traore up front. Never mentioned Sinclair, but since you brought him up, Id start him myself over Gabby on the left wing

Ljajic would be a great signing, but it'd be an odd transfer positionally. The team is crying out for that goal scorer, he isn't him, as talented a player as he is. The money involved too would be hefty as well because Fiorentina apparently get 20%, personally I'd rather spend it on the striker.

read that they only get 20% of the profit Roma make from selling him on. so 20% of anything over 11m euro.

Still As I said previously he isn't what we need, we need a CF but i'd be very happy if he signed.

Would be nice to see him, but if he's good enough to be playing cup games for us I'd like to see him loaned out. We've had too many youngsters who flirt around the first team without really getting a look in until they are too old.

Can't post lineup as on phone, but definitely not our strongest and no recognised striker in the XI. Ayew up front perhaps?

Sanchez centre half as well. Strange lineup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,136 ✭✭✭Patser

    GIL!!!!!

Sanchez did play CB in a preseason friendly, can only assume it's for his match fitness and to rest others.

Traore or Ayew up front..... just to keep picking at that scab (joke)

Rereading that lineup and trying to make sense - maybe it's the very rare 3-2-4-1 system

    ..................Bunn
    ....Hutton.....Baker....Richardson
    ..........Sanchez......Veretout
    Traore.....Gil.......Grealish. ..... Sinclair
    ...................Ayew

    Tactics Tim.
