Good to see Joe Duffy making a return to MMA!

Does the channel 4 deal extend to this event even though it's on outside the uk?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

Really looking forward to this. Still on a live MMA buzz from last week. :)

Brilliant. It's like some lovely methadone to ease the comedown from the rush of UFC Dublin.

Bringing my brother whos never seen a live event before and dont think hes even seen a UFC card but i showed him the promo clips and he was sold!.

Mate backed out of this so looks like I'll be going by myself. Still looking forward to a good night.

Lads, does anyone have any spare €35 tickets available for this? Our idiot of a mate got the wrong amount and one of our friends is now without a ticket. None available on the helix website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,476 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Sorely tempted, but my mate who's the only other MMA hardcore I know has backed out and I don't fancy driving from Donegal and back myself.

Booked tickets ages ago and still haven't been sent out yet. Are tickets usually posted out this late?

You're sure you didn't choose "Box Office Collection"? That's the option I normally choose. Never had a problem.

Definitely opted for the tickets to be posted out. I'll ring them up anyway and ask them.

    Mulpeter v Bostwick off.

Bostwick nowhere near the weight. Mulpeter weighs in correctly and receives his purse.

Ah FFS Very unprofessional from Bostwick, he should be made go up a weight now. Bought my tickets partially based on this fight. Id say they are furious at him.
Was looking forward to that, id say nobody is more dissapointed that Mulpeter is though.
Cage warriors trying their best to incentivise fighters too.

    How far out was he?

Also where did the weigh-ins take place?. Usually hear about the weigh-ins but not this time and didnt see anything about the weigh ins on their twitter or website on the run up to this event.

    11lbs according to CW site

The fight has been scrapped due to Bostwick being unable to make the 171lbs limit for his welterweight clash with the Irishman at The Helix tomorrow night.

Bostwick arrived at the CWFC hotel in Dublin yesterday (Thursday) morning, weighing 194lbs. The 24-year Englishman tipped the scales at 182lbs at 11.05am this morning but was unable to cut any further.

Weigh-ins took place at the Carlton Hotel, as per all Dublin events, and all details were on our Twitter - HERE - this afternoon as normal.

    Cool, thanks.

Maybe a silly question, but does it just stream live there or can it be replayed afterwards? Not working until midnight.

Just streams live. They usually wait a few days before putting on website/youtube so dont think youll be able to see after midnight.

Surprised at Fisher whinging about the stoppage. He can't expect the ref to wait for the clock when he's getting his head pounded. Pretty cool for Lobov though, finish at 4:59 of the third. That was like a comeback from a movie.

  • Registered Users Posts: 205 ✭✭johnpro

Lobov and Redmond were brilliant fights but the stream quality for the Duffy fight was brutal...i'd say I saw 15 seconds of action in total then heard the result because the audio decided to work while the video didn't....was it a good performance??

Clinical is how I'd describe it. Very measured but dominant on the feet, the submission came to him fairly quickly too. No obvious holes in his game at all in that fight, it'll take someone decent to beat him.

Just back from the Helix, Very good show overall and Lobov really stole the show. Fisher started to flag in the 3rd and Artem needed no second invitation. Fisher shouldn't have lost that though and you could see his heart isnt really in the game.
Glad to see the 2 separate entrance/exit gates since ive last seen a show live as this way there is no advantage to the fighter just inside the single and only entrance.
Couple of quibbles probably too small to mention but no post fight interview with Joseph Duffy has to be noted. They interviewed guys as far back as Peter Queally so im not sure why they felt they didnt need to interview Joseph. I can hazard a guess it was past 11pm live airtime but even just for the crowd that turned up and posterity it would have been nice.

What happened with the Costigan fight? Just watching McGahon's post-fight interviews there and Costigan's opponent sounds like a bit of a nutter. That fight wasn't televised, apparently she wasn't happy with the stoppage and attacked a fan on the way out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,624 ✭✭✭Dancor

I don't know who that Lloyd Clarkson chap was but he shouldn't be let near a cage again.

I think he had the Homer Simpson game plan where he just takes all the shots until his opponent gets tired and then just pushes them over. Unfortunately for him, Brian Moore happily punched him for 3 rounds.

Really! I didn't hear. I arrived shortly after that one so missed it.

Delighted for him I hope they give him a serious test next time out. It's not difficult to imagine him being at similar level to parke and mcgregor had he stuck with it to the same degree as them. He's obviously a really talented guy and has his passion for the sport back so by next year we could have another guy in the UFC....all part of the take over :)

She tried to attack a fan alright but was dragged away. Not sure what happened officially but from where I was sitting, Costigan had an armbar in, was working on it, and her opponent managed to get into a position where she forcefully dropped both of her feet on Costigan's face.

The ref liked unhappy but Costigan still had the armbar in. So rather than stop the fight for a point deduction, he stopped the fight and have Costigan a technical submission victory.

I missed one of the earlier fights and can't find the details, can someone help?

I'm looking for the name of the Dublin/Killdare fella who lost, I think he's about 23, bald. It went to the judges to decide and he lost....

Was the referee right there? It looked like he saw the kicks to face and "played advantage" so to speak as Costigan had the arm bar in place, then no submission coming stopped the fight? I would have thought warning / point deduction would have been correct

I just checked it out on you tube. That seems to be what happened but the ref didn't make it clear.

Did he call the sub cos it was too deep, or was he influenced by the dirty kicks? A bit of both maybe?

I wish Catherine just used her hips more, she would have snapped that arm like a twig then lol.

Duffy looked sharp, good head movement and boxing but his opponeny was savvy enough to avoid getting hit too much and landed good kicks.

Anyone know where I can get a list of the amateur fights that were on?
