Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Very telling that LVG hooked cleverley despite saying he would play 90 minutes

Tbh I don't think the change would have been made had the crowd not clearly wanted chico on.

Shaw looks overwhelmed : ( I'm a massive fan of his but yeah.. Hopefully time sorts it out.

Spot on Reece was more impressive in the first half. It will take him a few months to settle

Zaha already in Van Gaals bad books obviously.

Didn't look happy at all on the bench.

I thought Cleverley improved in the 2nd half, or what he played of it.

LVG thinks...I would need to be Jesus to turn TC23 into a Vidal type midfielder.

Hoping weeks, longer it goes the more pressure builds on him.

A wait and see.. hope he pulls through.

Wow, stadium is practically half empty but there's still over 50k there.

He is overawed at the moment. I think it will be months, hasn't even played at OT yet. One or two really good games in the league and he will be fine but might take time for that too happen

Ah Jaysus it's preseason, he's had what 90 minutes in two games with hugely changing teams. A bit rash calling him overawed and taking months to settle!

Runs around in a circle for about 30 seconds because he won't cross with his lleft.Nice cross in the end but he must know that defenders have him sussed

Shaw also now playing wing-back and not full-back. Might take a small bit of getting used to, along with new team etc. He should be fine, looked quality last season.

    Terrible refereeing.

Keeper was miles off his line when that was taken ?

Such an ambiguous call. Referees are so inconsistent in those situations.

I don't mean that as a criticism. He has looked nervous in interviews and in the games so far. I mean it as a 19 yr old completely removed from his comfort zone and dealing with a lot more pressure. And when I say settle I mean putting in top performances like he was doing at Southampton.

If he meant that his talents are being wasted in the wrong sport

I agree but it should make it easier defensively playing in a back 5 rather than 4.

Captain Cleverly came off and the team fell apart. That'll teach Van Gaal to take him off early.

serious question, how many full southampton games have you seen or are you just judging shaw by the odd game or MOTD highlights?

Serious answer I seen him live 4 times last year as my sister lives in Bournemouth and her husband is a big Southampton fan. Also watched most of the live games on sky/BT. Why?

Am I being ridiculous to suggest a 19 yr old with a lot of expectation and talent may take time to settle after a 27 million quid transfer.

Come on guys, the second pre season friendly will show nothing in terms of how the team will perform in competitive matches. You all need to relax a bit and just enjoy the fact we are playing again.

Back 3/5 depends on how u look at it. Shaw is now running a left flank on his own as opposed to playing behind/ in tandem with a winger

If it's a back 3 then shaw isnt part of it.

Playing wing-back is more difficult than playing fullback was the point I think. Back 3/5 whatever you want to call it, more expected of Shaw in that system.
