How to stop puupy eating stones

Hey we live in a rented apartment the back garden is full of pebbles our seven month old puppy keeps eating them and they are making him ill. Is there anything we can do to stones to stop him? The space is quite large and our landlord is not keen to spend money on changing garden Help :-( :-(
