Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

GAA & WW1

Is anyone aware of any inter county players who served in WW1?

There are an on-going series of commemorations of Irishmen killed in WW1.
I was at a possibly unique event recently where the survivors were remembered.

The event was organised by Sabina Purcell.
She is recording a database of the soldiers who survived.
It is easily found on the web under World War Veterans.

She told me that there are very few county GAA players.
Both my grandfathers served but were from garrison town.
    So I was not surprised.

    Interesting thread OP.

Worth remembering that a lot of Irish born people who immigrated to the US served in the US army in WW 1, some of them may have had county experience
