When applying for car insurance, if a person writes down a job in "occupation" yet they are claiming jobseekers, if they had to claim from their car insurance company, would the insurance company be able to find out the person was unemployed? Would the social welfare office give them that information? Asking this because my friend applied for car insurance and she usually works as a waitress but hasnt been working full time since last january. She signed on for social welfare in march and has been on it ever since. She did work in may for 2 weeks and suspended her payment. When she was filling out the form she put waitress down as it was her last occupation. She asked me would this matter?

Yes it matters or they wouldn't ask the question. Where is the problem in putting down unemployed? Insurers have less of a rating issue with this than a (licenced trade) waitress.

Misrepresent on your insurance proposal and it will come out in the event of a claim
