Reus at 25m?!!!! Why aren't we (and a sh*t load of other teams) going in for him at that price! Crazy money for a World class player.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Dortmund are NOT selling Reus to anyone, move on.

Something tells me it's just paper speculation. If it's true however, I willl be very curious as to why we didn't make a bid.

    More from james pearce
James Pearce - Samuel Eto'o would be an absolute last resort and I'd be surprised if that one happened. #LFC looking at other options.

James Pearce - I'm not aware of any interest in Icardi.

James Pearce - Rodgers won't just spend for the sake of it & could even wait until January if the right deal (for a striker) can't be done.

That would not go down well here if we didnt sign a new striker.
Would be a gamble but if we kept borini probably not a gigantic gamble if we had a quality player lined up for January.

Just on Bony he will be at the African Cup after Christmas, as will Song (if we sign him)
4 weeks out playing for their country is a reason no to sign someone in my book

Also, we're close to signing Song.

That would be a fantastic signing. Would also mean Lucas is off.

Does anyone really believe Reus is going to Atletico?

    Of course he isn't.

I could easily see this happening.

It'd be a bummer but in the end, if we don't want to be a flash in the pan, we have to be willing to do things like that.

So how about everyone else? Where do you think we will finish, and why do you think we will finish there?

With the squad as it currently stands, 5th. Add a 20-goal a season striker and then we can talk top 4.

Not many clubs have two 20 goal strikers at the same time. We did last year but it's a rarity. Chelsea and Arsenal don't have it even this season. We just need someone decent who can chip in with 10-15 IMO. Given that they won't be starting every game.

LFC could've scored 33 fewer goals last season & still had same amount of points.
Daniel Sturridges goals contributed 20 points alone last season more than any other player.

Im gonna throw out a little ray of sunshine here, why liverpool can win the league
      https://thisisanalysis.wordpress.com/2014/08/11/how-will-liverpool-win-the-league-in-201415/

      Some highlights
      • In the second half of 2013/14, Liverpool played 19 league games and achieved 2.52 points per game (ppg)
      • Suarez scored in 9 of the 19 games and Liverpool had a 2.78 ppg
      • In the 10 games where Suarez failed to score, Liverpool still achieved 2.30 ppg
      • Suarez 31 goals were scored in just 18 games. Luis Suarez failed to score in almost half the league games he played in last season.

In Summary we are a very good team even without suarez, we however were a very small and patchy squad. This has largely been addressed so im not sure how we actually drop out of the top 4 to be honest this season.

Where are these Song rumours coming from? Definitely a signing Id be in favour of, would leave us with really strong options in midfield. However it seems unlikely we'd pay him big wages to be back up and I dont see whos place he would take. Presumably Lucas would be on the way out, maybe that would balance the books a bit.

As it stands I think a gk, a centre mid and a forward and our squad is perfectly balanced with good quality and depth in every position.

If Song signs, will that impede Can's progress?

I agree, don't see why we would sign a defensive CM who would expect to be a starter. We brought Can in to do that job, although Lallana will probably play central when fit, and Stevie and Hendo will always start, so we don't need another starter...

First time I've seen a pic of Moreno smiling. Thank fook. For a minute there I thought we had broken his spirit by signing him. He was so upset leaving Sevilla and has looked depressed in every pic I've seen since!

No pics of Gerrard in training?

If Song signs, will that impede Can's progress?

I could be wrong, but I think Can is more of a CM from what I've seen and looking at his stats.

Song is more of a DM.

Song would be competition/cover/perhaps a long term replacement for Gerrard.

A fantastic player imo. Not the most pressing issue in the squad perhaps, but it is probably something we need to look at at some stage, and if Lucas is off we could be left a bit short here, as I wouldn't see any of our other midfield options as being natural DMs.

    • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,484 ✭✭✭✭cson

      Song isn't a defensive midfielder.

I was one of his biggest fans and was aghast we let him go to Barcelona, but he's been shown up for what he is over there; an average box to box midfielder.

And just reading there that you'd consider him a potential long term replacement for Gerrard? Really?!

Can is Gerrards successor if all goes to plan.

Well I dont think anyone would agree that we should rush out and buy a striker. I would of course want to wait to get the best player.

However, we've had plenty of time to look at targets since Suarez departure and it would be ridiculous to suggest that our scouting network would not have a list of players that would fit the squads profile.

So its then a matter of money/risk. Overpay to get what we want or see if our current squad is good enough as is. Both are risky but waiting until january IMO would be the riskier option.

A striker isn't just for Christmas though. Don't want to be lumbered with the wrong player on big wages.

I noticed that! May have been doing media stuff or whatever, those shots could have been from a short session.

No Agger, Flanagan, Markovic or Lallana, all still injured...

Well we wanted Sanchez, but he went elsewhere.
Then we wanted Remy, but something went wrong.
So I guess we are working through other options...

He made a total tit of himself against Croatia with that hatchet job on Mandzukic. The rest of his squad weren't much better tbf.

He's on the wrong side of the ability/mentality scale (unlike say Balotelli) so it's a no from me. Would he move if he wasn't guaranteed a starting place anyway?

On a striker, I'd be ok with waiting till January providing Borini stays. Otherwise, I think we need someone, even if it's Eto'o. Would rather overpay slightly now for a good longer term option than wait, but so long as we're not stuck with Sturridge and Lambert I won't be too fussed.

Reus also offers increased depth as he can play in goals, CM, striker and can even deputise as manager if Brendao needs some time off. Complete package
