I am glad that all these so-called journalists are coming out of the woodwork and calling Balotelli into question, because I am sure that Rodgers will be using this as ammunition to get Balotelli riled up.

Not too riled up though :P

Giles is a dinosaur. He's out of touch with modern football and i suspect the majority of fans will know this.

There are many examples that show him up. At his best he throws around the usual generic quotes like "The problem with Arsenal is they try and walk the ball in" etc, at worst he is unprofessional eg calling Van Persie a prat when there was unconfirmed rumours he wanted out under Moyes, or even "tactics dont matter" that he throws out every now and then.

Anything i happen to read or hear from him is instantly forgotten as i neither care for or value his opinion on anything football related. He generally comes across as clueless.

    I wish him well.

Your done for now Harry. Everyone will catch onto you music loving secret identity !!!!!

Yes, that was the tune I was going for, but we don't have a Billy, so I used creative license!

Alex McCarthy is on the verge of moving to QPR for £4million, would love to see us gazump them, he'd provide really good cover and competition for Mignolet.

This. Although for some reason I thought CL squads were 21 players. But this is what I think it is for EPL and CL, if there's fewer than 8 in the squad, overall squad is reduced. The CL requirement that at least 4 of them are trained by the club is new to me, so that means that they must have been at Liverpool for 36mths prior to end of season when turning 21? And the other 4 (max) could have been with other club(s) during that time, is that right?

Reads like that to me, another way of putting is 8 FA homegrown players, 4 who need to have come through the club system and they need to have been
"registered with his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant national championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant national championship) or of 36 months"

    Pot 1

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal*, Porto

    Pot 2

Schalke, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Shakhtar Donetsk, Basel, Zenit St Petersburg, Manchester City

    Pot 3

Olympiakos, CSKA Moscow, Ajax, Liverpool, Sporting Lisbon, Galatasaray

    Pot 4

Anderlecht, Roma, APOEL, BATE Borisov, Maribor, Monaco
    * subject to their playoff tie against Besiktas

So looking at the various pots, anyone got any preferences on who we draw?

Benfica, Basel, Liverpool and Maribor looks good to me.

Id be happy with Benfica or Porto from pot one, especially Benfica who are a poorer side this season. From two id take Basel, Shakhtar or Schalke. Would hope to avoid Monaco and Roma in four.

Next Season, sure. But not right now.

We're just getting Started. I'd prefer something easier.

It'll be interesting to see how our style translates into Europe. I think we might surprise a few people. In a good way. I hope.

Screw it, I want a big side or two. It's what the CL is all about. Seeing Anfield in full flow against the best in the world. You can bet that the big sides will want to avoid us in our pot.

    Bring it on I say!

**** getting the big sides. I'd rather get to the knockout stages.

You never ever want a hard draw. There's plenty of tough games to go around in the latter stages of the competition.

That was the rehearsal! They always do that and having that draw means none will be in the group tomorrow!

Well considering the draw isn't for another 6 days and all the teams haven't qualified yet I think you should ask him for tonights lotto numbers or at the very least the results of tonights matches so we can all put a few quid on them :pac: If he knows his stuff that well he must have some physic powers :P

Arsenal fan here guys! Just been reading that Neil Warnock has been appointed the new Crystal Palace manager. In 2008 Benitez fielded a weakened team in the league as they lost 1-0 to Fulham and sent Sheffield United down! Completely forgot about that! Imagine if Rodgers does something similar! :pac:

Should have given it to Steve Clarke .

No I think it would be better for Liverpool if Arsenal were involved in the Champions League.

It all got a bit tetchy around the Suarez/Sanchez deals but I don't have any real dislike for Arsenal. I wish them well.

I do however, have an irrational hatred of Spurs.

One of the toughest teams in the last pot.

Obviously it's unlikely but what would happen if Arsenal were knocked out. Would the same money available?

I remember when Everton almost got to the groups the money would have been less as it would be split 5 ways instead of the usual 4

I was thinking about this myself today and came to the same conclusion. While I'm all for them losing out of the $$ and traipsing around Europe on a Thursday night, I think proper cl games where they''ll be putting out full strength teams would be better for us.

I'm not 100% convinced though that I'm right.
Purely from a Liverpool POV , what do he think is the best outcome for us tonight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Would Arsenal have to play in Europa league if they lost tonight?
