Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Happy with that.

    Very nice.

One top team, one good team and one very beatable team. We should be qualifying from a group like that truth be told.

Perfect draw. Got the biggest glamour tie and two boys we should beat. Brilliant draw for us.

Have to be happy with that group. One glamour team and two very beatable teams. Could have been far far tougher.

    Delighted with that.

Real Madrid - Big gun but lets see what we are made of.
Basel - Tough but we should have enough for them.
Ludogrets - Done and dusted (I hope!)

I think Basel knocked out Ludogorets in last years qualifying rounds!

Great draw, old man don't drop ball on floor !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,798 ✭✭✭✭DrumSteve

Basel will be a tough game, they are no slouches, Ludogrets get their day out and Real, I can't wait for that game.

They will cause havoc with our defence, but we might get something out of it.

    Decent group. Very decent.

I think we can all be happy with that group. Gives us a great chance of progressing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,414 ✭✭✭Lord Trollington

Excellent draw. Basel and Ludo won't take any points of Real. Ludo really shouldn't pick up any points.

Will come to us and Basel for 2nd spot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭Sideshow Mark

Brilliant draw, best of both worlds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Dont forget Basel beat Chelsea home and away last season lads, dangerous team for us but a decent group considering what could have been on offer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,022 ✭✭✭✭Iused2likebusts

As 3rd seeds that is some draw a glamour tie with real and a great chance to qualify.

Confident of progressing, at the very least we should get 2nd in this group. We're much better than Basel and Ludogorets Razgrad. As long as we don't muck it up and end up with a draw away from home at either side I am confident we will win in Anfield and progress.

Real will be tough, I am less confident of getting any points in Madrid but a draw/win is possible at home.

    **** YES, CHAMPO LEAGUE!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Xherdan Shaqiri used to play for FC Basel - it can't be a coincidence.

Lovely group for City. Let's hope that have to play full strength teams for all 6 qualifiers.

Watching bits from the last time we played Real, like the above link, and here, Torres really was incredible.

****it, i'd still have him back now on the right contract as 3rd choice.

Torres then and Torres now are worlds apart.

You're right though, he was incredible.

Super draw for us. Not sure it could have went better.
If we don't get out of it it would be a real downer!

Liverpool have played Madrid 3 times in Europe. Won all 3 and haven't conceded a goal yet.

@empireofthekop: Ludogorets were founded in 2001, just 3 years before Chelsea.

I reckon Brendan will dip a toe into the transfer market again before it closes after seeing that group. A DM wouldn't go astray but seeing as Gerrard will be shoehorned into that position I think it'll be up top.

Yes, partly, but also in the hope that a different club with a more attacking approach might suit him better. The Torres of old is gone, that extra edge of pace, but it's not like he forgot how to play football. I mean, in the month before he joined Chelsea he scored 5 - the change was practically overnight. That points to psychological issues more than anything. (Yes in the period before that month, under Hodgson, be looked poor, which was also a very similar system to what Chelsea have played with...Kenny came in, we went back to attacking, he started scoring again)

If we could somehow get him on a free, and say 60k per week, i'd love it. I'm sure he'd want more considering the insane contract he's on though.
