It's terrible having Ricky Lambert for our third choice striker. :p

    http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/news/newsid=1913517.html

He also has a good record with direct free kicks.

    Lambert is being under estimated.

Your getting a bit carried away I think. Lambert signing was a relatively low risk, low fee, low wage and decent backup. He can do a job as 3rd choice as many have said.

You'd swear he was signed as the number 1 striker.

    Speaking of free kicks.

Somebody's going to have to fill the free kick specialist role with Luis gone.

in terms of backup strikers Chelsea have Drogba and Torres, at this stage I probably would rather have Lambert! Torres is a busted flush, after the knee and the hamstrings he has nothing left in the tank. Failed over 3 seasons at Chelsea, only there cos they cant shift him on. Drogba is getting on, we'll see how much he has left to give this year.

Rickie Lambert has scored a goal every two and a bit games in the Premier League with Southampton, and we got him for £4m. I dont see what the problem is whatsoever. Anyone judging a player on their pre-season performances doesnt know anything about football, in my view.

lambert cost 4 million and did more for southampton last season than aspas will do in his entire football career. i see only positives with his signings.

a bad pre-season isnt the end of the world. i remember torres having a crap pre-season when we signed him..he turned out to be one of our greatest ever strikers.

Hell even Suarez wasn't considered by any of the top 4 either before we signed him.

I'm sorry but I don't remember it like that, he was constantly linked I feel!

I have to say I don't remember City interest at the time but I definitely thought he would go to Man United at one stage and I remember Spurs and Chelsea sniffing around also. United were definitely favourites at one stage, I remember being very pissed about the idea!

Oh god, someone please tell me we've signed Vidal or Reuss or someone, its been, like, days since we had a new signing.

We've lacked a proper epic saga this summer and Sanchez apart all the targets have been secured bar Remi for for reasons unforeseen. You'd nearly wish to be a gibbering Man Utd supporter mashing the F5 button for news of Vidal, Rues, Hummels, Kroos and everyone else they've yet to sign.

Yeah, terrible thing to be competing for those type of players. Not everyone is interested in players of Lambert's or Can's level.

In much the same way that Suarez wasn't interested in staying at a club of liverpool's level. 14 months ago liverpool were in the same position. Short memories around here!

There's a lot of delusion around here if people think that United will perform no better under LVG than they did under Moyes - the equivalent of saying that Rogers is no better than Hodgson!

Pool lost their best player, United got rid of their weakest points with serious upgrades in the midfield left back and most importantly managerial position.

    Uh-oh.

Rodgers: "Balotelli is a big talent. I saw that in this time at Inter Milan as a young player. He is quick and his touch is terrific."

The club has about 30 million quid to play with and that's before anyone else is sold, another forward is going to be signed.

I've absolutely no problem with signing Lambert as back up. Lambert was bought prior to selling Suarez I know, but the priority now should be finding a credible alternative to Suarez and as of yet it's looking bleak. At the moment we are relying completely on Sturridge. We need another top class striker.

Have to admit Balotelli would be a very interesting buy...nutbag, but only still about to turn 24 - feels like he's been around forever!

With the right manager, he could be incredible.

You may be right but as of now we have no way of knowing that.

You can come in here swinging your balls around all you want but basically you're just HOPING ye perform better than last season. It's too early to tell.

Likewise with liverpool. Are you all hoping that you match or better last years performance?

Reasonable ideals from both teams and only time will tell if they can be matched.

It would be very difficult to improve on last years performance.

After the massive negative of losing Suarez, there has been great strides made in the transfer market in my opinion.

It looks like we are going to sign Moreno, who everyone agrees is much better than Shaw.

We've added a top quality centre back in Lovren.

Emre Can looks very promising. Very promising.

Lallana is a quality player who will do really well in this Liverpool team in my opinion.

Markovic is supposed to be an amazing talent according to some.

We just need to add a good forward and we're set. Probably Reus or Balotelli or Falcao on loan I'd say.

I like Balotelli, our team is short a bit of crazy right now

Just take a look at the teams Lambert scored against last season. Not a lad for the big games at all, but should do well for us against the likes of Leicester, West Brom, Villa etc.

Did you miss the Man City, Man Utd, Spurs games there? Palace and Stoke aren't easy teams to score against either.

There seem to be a few Lambert doubters so I'll throw this video up, it's all of his assists and goals from last season. The guy is worth 4mil for his assists alone! He also knows where the back of the net is and takes a good freekick. 4 Million well spent.

First one to celebrate with him was Lallana almost every time. Good that we got the two of then who must have a good relationship on and off the pitch.

Interesting to see that Rodgers has been impressed by Coates, would have seen his departure as a dead rubber.

I think Coates deserves a chance but as BR said he may not get a lot of game time.

It might be a bit harsh but I dont want to see Toure in our first 11 and would not be sad to see him shipped out. He is a liability.

Kolo was quite impressive at the beginning of last season but obviously lost his head at some point. You have to remember too that this is a chap who's been there and done it (and seems to actually care unlike Joe Cole) so he could be a head that would be very worthwhile to keep around in the dressing room.

    It's not harsh at all.

If the club want to keep him fair enough but I'd rather he was 5th or 6th choice and had little chance of playing again for us.
