Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So frustrating for Pepe i'd say, if he could turn his head upside down he'd have a right head of hair. Follicly challenged at the near post im afraid.

People have rose tinted glasses on re:Pepe

    His wages are huge

He's not the shot stopper he once was

Him staying would have a bad effect on the club.

This is not the man who would be staying

You talk as if he made a huge sacrifice for this. He was handsomely rewarded for his "sacrifice".
I do appreciate he could have left around the Hodgson era.

Very good signing for West Ham to be honest. I have a lot of time for Cissokho...not quite good enough for us, but a hard working, decent defender.

Anyone here ever look at the comments on Liverpool's Facebook page? It makes this place look good :pac:

    Re: Pepe Reina's departure
A BIG MISTAKE by Rodgers letting Pepe leave...sometimes I wonder if he's gud enough 4 LFC or LFC is big 4 him...he's busy buying average players...WE ArE NOT SWANSEA, we are LIVERPOOL. The best club in the World...Brendan

    Re: Origi's arrival
The only forward we have bought and we go and loan him out straight away FFS!!!
    Poor Rickie :(

    Re: I hate Brendan Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers is a good coach, no
doubt about it, but he has got it wrong
    with his transfer dealings.

Lets take a look @ Rodgers transfers since
he took the helm @ ANFIELD hot seat in
    2012. He signed 14 players, 2 on loan & 1
free. They are: Fabio Borini - £10m
    Joe Allen - £15m
    Oussama Assaidi - £2.4m
    Shamed Yesil - £1m
    Daniel Sturridge - £12m
    Philippe Coutinho - £8.5
    Tiago ILori - £7m
    Mamadou Sakho - £18m
    Simon Mignolet - £9m
    Iago Aspas - £7.2m
    Luis Alberto - £6.8m
All these totalling a whopping £97.4m.

With all these transfers only Sturridge &
Coutinho have made their mark, with
Mignolet & Sakho yet 2 live up 2
    expectations. Meaning that Rodgers has
wasted a total of £49.9m on these 7 flops:
Borini, Allen, Assaidi, Yesil, ILori, Aspas &
    Alberto.

This season Rodgers has continued in his
QUEST to sign MEDIOCRE players rather
    than signing proven player.

Some of his recent signings are: Lallana(£25m), Can
    (£10m), Markovic(£20m), Lovren(£20m),
    Origi(£10m), Lambert(£4m) totalling £89m.

None of them are proven with only 1
season performance. Don't 4get when we
signed Suarez we were not in CL & he was
not a super star BT he was a goal machine
@ Ajax. This is type of players I except BR 2
b signing not d average ones. My question
is: Has Rodgers got it right or wrong in his
    transfer dealings?
Andy Carroll , Igor Aspas, now we have Lambert! #fail
    Igor? :pac:
Just buy a striker who can put the ball in the back of the net, you muppet! Or 1-3 to the Mancs is going to happen a lot this season!

One of the things I'm unhappy about this summer is it the fact to a large extent we're paying "top class" money for players who haven't really proven they're top class. It seems incredibly risky to me. Riskier than it needs to be.

I agree but the market seems hugely inflated this Summer. Everton just paid £28m for Lukaku ffs. Crazy. I imagine it's the new tv money coming into play.

It's hard to know if the figures we've heard are true anyway. Lallana has cost anything from £16m up to £25m so who knows.

Bottom line for me is BR deserves to build his own squad. He deserves to succeed or fail with his own squad.

We all may not agree with some signings but BR wanted them and I think he will make them fit in well.

Except that of the 7 'flops' listed we're likely to make a profit on 2, a couple more still have the jury out andin any cases the outlay was relatively small. Only Aspas and Alberto really stand out as flops in there.

Ffs, the analysis of Brendan Rodgers transfers and percentage of useful vs useless incoming players is utterly futile unless you provide a comparison with other managers and clubs.

Every single one of them gets it wrong and I would wager that the success rate is remarkably similar across all the top clubs.

Fabio Borini - £10m....£4 million profit.

Joe Allen - £15m....Good squad player, certainly not a flop.

Oussama Assaidi - £2.4m....Going to make a profit here also I think.

Shamed Yesil - £1m....Injuries have set him back.

    Daniel Sturridge - £12m....Massive success.

    Philippe Coutinho - £8.5....Massive success.

    Tiago ILori - £7m....Still deverloping.

Mamadou Sakho - £18m....Should be a solid defender going forward.

Simon Mignolet - £9m....Has done ok.

    Iago Aspas - £7.2m....Flop.

    Luis Alberto - £6.8m....Developing.

All these totalling a whopping £97.4m.

    Thoughts so far:

The current signings are encouraging. Losing a player of Luis's talent is difficult but €75 does help to build a squad. I like Lovren and Lallana, am hopeful for Markovic and Moreno (pending) and worry a bit for Lambert and Manquillo. One perhaps too young and the other too sentimental. All in all a good transfer window so far.

But how much remains money wise and can it be put to good use? A back up keeper is now a necessity. Along with another striker. I'd like to be proven wrong in the Cavani talk but unlikely a superstar will be coming. My punt would be for Bony. He is a beast, has pace, strength and an eye for goal. Was impressed by him last year and he had a reasonable World Cup (not many other 9's can say that).

But what of next year. A fight for 3/4 the is on the cards with Arsenal and Man U. I truly believe we can win this battle but it's going to be a slog - with the squad in place and my faith in the manager I say... Let the games commence

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭cunnifferous

Wouldn't be too overwhelmed nor displeased with Bony. I read that he had been ruled out due to wage demands. Would have thought he'd be a low enough earner, anyone have any idea how much he is on/looking for?

We should just do a comparison to Rafa, really wreck heads. I think transfers under Rodgers are ok, with the 20 Million spent on Coutinho and Sturridge giving them the benefit doubt, 2 absolute bargains that all the top 4 and United would be envious of. The likes of Asaidi and Alberto wouldn't bother me , only punts really. Borini and Aspas the biggest disappointments so far.

    Is anyone actually criticising Rodgers.

The transfers have been patchy the past few years, that's a fact. We were lucky and so was Rodgers to have one of the best players in the world at the club.

On the flip side Suarez was also lucky to have a manager playing to his strengths.

Personally I think we are a few players short of a CL place atm

I wouldn't really call Allen a bad transfer or a flop, that's over dramatic and lazy thinking. He's done fine, unlucky with injuries but it his third season here, it took that for Henderson to show us what he can do. We probably over paid a bit but a useful squad player at the least.

Chelsea do and they have shown how you work the FFP system.

Alberto is probably going to be a case in point for Liverpool, didn't get much of chance last season. Loaned to Malaga he has already knocked in 3 or 4 goals in pre-season. If he has a good season and a Liga team want him Liverpool will probably turn a handy 3/4 million profit. That might not seem much but do that 3 times every summer and you've gone some way to buying a 20 million quid type without damaging the clubs finances within FFP. Assaidi looks like turning a handy profit, I bet Canos and Chivrella will be others who follow this path.
