A raw looking talent. €12m looks about right. Nice acceleration, willing to go forward and take on players - a bit headless but that's youth. Technique looks solid. A little bit one legged but that can also be improved. Still expect Jose to be first team LB but Moreno could develop over next 12 months very nicely.

"With Assaidi and Borini likely to follow, plus Coates, Agger, Lucas, Suso possible sales"

out of all those lads, suso is the one i'd choose to keep.

Our best 11? Looks a pretty solid team with a strong bench. Still think we are missing a top class Suarez replacement though and could do with a better backup keeper.

    Sturridge
    Lallana
    Sterling
    Coutiniho
    ----Henderson---Gerrard

    Moreno--Sakho--Lovren--Manquillo

    Mingolet

Bench options: Jones, Markovic, Can, Lambert, Allen, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique, Flanagan, Ibe, Suso, Borini.

    Borini, for me.

In the Unlikely Event that we couldn't get a Striker/WF in, or just got 60yo Eto'o, I'd definitely hold on to Borini.

Suso, for all his Potential, will not be able to Displace anyone in the Wings and in Midfield. So for me, he's Expendable.

Just further to this, if any four of the above five left Liverpool would be in a trading profit for the summer and not a penny of the 60m war chest touched, now I just put this out there for divilment but did the money ever exist? and if it did so why hasn't it been spent? Or will it be spent - next year? With the money from tv and the CL group stage income the club must be very handily placed with regard to FFP when that kicks in next year

If for the sake of argument we had signed Sanchez, I don't think we would've done much else differently but would've spent an extra 30m quid or whatever and our first 11 would look far more impressive.

It's a very specific player we need to fill that position optimally - they need, tactically and technically, to be able to play wide, alongside Sturridge and on their own if he's injured and they need to work hard while doing so.

I think if we were paying 30m+ for an attacker they'd have to tick all those boxes.

We needed a youngster in CM - Gerrard isn't ready to be turfed out yet.
We have two established full backs (I think Johnson will run his contract down so we may as will hang on to him) so 2 new young ones makes sense.

There's maybe a tiny question mark over signing Lallana but it's certainly feasible that he'll be just as effective as players who cost 50% more.
You'd struggle to find many players who'd cover CM, the wings, score, create and be happy to be part of a team of midfielders rather than a real stand out. He gives us huge flexibility in a way that Pogba or Griezmann or someone of that calibre wouldn't.

It's really hard to find much fault with anything we've done so far.

Wonder can we get Origi back if we get stuck?

    No red cafu???

I'd start enrique and skittles before Sahko and Moreno, for the early games anyway. Hopefully the new arrivals will spur them on a bit to put in better performances. I think if we can phase in the new signings, we'll get more out of them. Last thing you want to do is be putting pressure straight away on relatively unproven new signings to deliver immediately.

Top summer so far, just one signing shy of being a top top summer

Not sure if Moreno will be walking into the starting XI straight away. Of all our signings Lovren is the only guaranteed starter. Personally I would put Lallana in that bracket as well. Manquillo impressed me but it's a bit early to assume he will be a starter, saying that I have high hopes for him.

Id say he will start, hes the best LB in team now anyway.

Throwing this out their but who would take Adebayor.
He is proven in the premier Lenape and la liga and I think he would do for a season or two until we found who were looking for, or it gives origi and sterling more time to develop.

He would be cheaper than Eto'o on wages and a better alternative.

He has the player attributes I want - he's just not the person I want.

It's the type of one which could work out, or prove to be an utter disaster. I do have more time for him than most though, especially considering some of the real world trauma's he's been through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,799 ✭✭✭✭Charlie19

I think Rodgers will field the closest XI to what finished off the end of last season and he could be forced that way because of injury to Lalana.

    MIg
    Cafu---Skrtel---Loveren---Johnson(sigh)
    Gerrard
    ----Hendo--Lucas/Allen?
    ---Sterling--Couthinio
    Sturidge

If he was attainable, then yeah of course but didn't city have to pay some of his wages to make up from what Spurs could fork out.

I haven't heard of him but I'm excited about how good he'll be. When the media were talking about 20 million pound fees and we have him for £12 millions I'll presume hes a good player. I don't follow every league but the media helps us know about these players so if they reckon 20 is an acceptable price and we get him for 12 I'll say its a good buy and then hope he plays to his potential.

If you are a La Liga expert and have watched him play, please talk about him instead of questioning peoples integrity.

Salomon Kalou is available allegedly - he can play up front or on the wing and is only 29 - better than nothing when you are scraping the barrel for a player. Cheeky loan deal could do the trick - exchange him with Origi at the end of the season.

Money I'm football is gone made and we all know that. But how can clubs pay 11m for Ross McCormack and 12m for Shane long.
We spent that fee on Suarez!!!!

Em...no. Liverpool spent about double each of those on Suarez, given the hyperinflation caused by the new tv deal and the Liverpool money at Southampton in the Long case they're not in anyway comparable to each other.

Actually yeah in hindsight I take it back, adding the transfer fees of 2 players together joining different teams makes it far more relevant to Suarez.

You are assuming a lot of Suso! Eto'o for all his age and questionable motivation is clearly a better squad option to play in the CL than a 21 year old.

Suso is only 20, unless you were referring to someone else.

What's with the random capitalisation? It really is bizarre.

At this stage with all the attention it gets him there is no way in hell Raif is gonna stop with the random capitilizations. I had a friend like that once about ten years ago that wore a pink T-shirt, before everyone wore pink for a while, and it got him so much attention he went out and bought a pink wardrobe. Some people just like to be different for the attention it gets them. ;)

If he paid us 5m to join and on free wages I wouldnt have him at the club.
If Eto'o is a mercanary then Adebayor is even worse. He is slow, lazy, would not suit out style at all and thrives on high balls on crosses which we wont provide. Plus he was on 170k at city, then agreed to reduce it to 100k at spurs if he got a 5m pay off up front.

With the firesale going on a spurs at the moment what are peoples thoughts on Soldado as a signing?
He is surprisingly fast, has great control and was a clinical finisher until he went to that N London wasteland. He has scored 1 in 2 more or less every season since 2009.

He was quite poor to ordinary the majority of the time I watched him so no thanks.

Who said Adebyeor? Jaysus no! He plays when he feels like it. Can't imagine Rodgers liking that attitude

I wouldn't want him either but it's unfair to call him mercenary when he obviously has good agents. Not his fault that clubs threw their money voluntarily at him.

I would take Adebayor but only for 12 months or at least monitor his attitude after a year.

He is a quality player but they are question marks about his personality. If I remember correctly he usually gives 6-12 months of very good service to a new club before he appears to get bored.

He would be a great addition to what we have.

I'm confused as to why people are questioning his motives re salary. If City agreed to pay him a salary to move to their club then surely he was right to hold them to that contract ? Who wouldn't ? At least we know he is not stupid.

He is unplayable when he wants to be and maybe Brendan could motivate him to our advantage.

Is he even up for grabs ? Why is he being considered by other posters ? Have I missed something ?

No you haven't missed anything, his is a name randomly plucked out of the sky by another poster to ask what about him hypothetically.

    Breaking News, Liverpool Sign Bent

I see Negredo is being rumoured to miss out on City's CL squad because of homegrown quota. I guess that means Jovetic is staying put, but would Negredo be gettable? Would you take him?

He's out until November with injury. Before the injury though he was being linked with a return to Spain, Atletico I think.

I'd prefer Long to Borini in fairness. Both have average goal returns tho Long has pace.

Southhampton are only paying that much to force a quick sale and because they are flush with cash.

On Soldado he had a nightmare time at Spurs but my point is he is a good player with a lot of the attributes we would be looking for. He is also very fast and on low wages and at this point would happy to not be a guaranteed starter

    Just a thought

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,872 ✭✭✭Dickerty

    So, to sum up -

    1. We are signing Moreno for what appears to be a lessser fee than Sevilla were insisting on, so good on us.
    2. We still might sign Eto'o, which could turn out to to be a smart short-term move, or a missed opportunity if we are short on cover (which we can address in Jan anyway).
    3. Kelly is off to Palace for a song, I hope he stays fit and does well for them (except v us).
    4. We still have no idea who will play at FB on Sunday, with Moreno not in yet and Flanagan still injured? Could be the same back 4 as last Sunday, which worked well?

I don't think they would sell to us, so it is moot, but there is no way he's on low wages, they bought him as their star striker last summer, prob on about 80k.

I am sure he'd want to be a certain starter if he moved away from Spurs as well...

Interesting comments from Poyet given to a local radio station. Looks like the soundbites knocking around yesterday were BS.
“I’m desperate [for it to happen] but it’s still ongoing.

    “It’s important.

“Fabio, for us, is important and I will tell you why.

“You can always go and spend some millions on a player, but when you know the player the way I know Fabio, how professional he is, how much he cares, the positions in which he can play, and what he brings to the team and to the group...

“He has plenty of things that I really, really like. He’s professional and I think he would be fantastic for the group as well, not just because he scores goals.

“He’s a key player, which is why the [fee] agreement with Liverpool is quite a big one.

“We’ll see. I’m still hoping it is going to happen, but we need to wait and see.”

Soldado is "only" on £3m a year which compared to what has been bandied about for Falcao, Cavani etc is small small money

I think our striker issue will boil down to Ian Ayre and his Good Friday Agreement negotiating skills with the Swansea chairman for Bony. If it is to be believed and club is skeptical about paying 19million sterling for him, then what are the club willing to pay? I reckon somewhere in the region of 14-15mill.

I don't see Cavani taking a massive drop in wages to come play for us. I am assuming he is on massive wages similar to everybody at PSG including the tea lady! Any ideas of his wages???

The striker issue I think could go right till deadline day. We could see Bony down tools in order to force the move but let's hope it doesn't come to that, as it is not fair on the selling club.

Ya I can see why he wants him so much. Seems obvious to me rodgers isn't letting him go till he gets a striker in that is the hold up. When Rodgers first came here he sold Carroll before getting another in, he's too smart for it to happen again.

11 players have been put up for sale reportedly
Townsend, Lennon, Soldado, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Naughton, Chiriches, Sandro, Capoue, Chadli and Dembele all up for sale by north London club

    I'd take Soldado, no problem.

Sandro too. Dembele I really like, but we have enough in that department.

Surprised if they sell Chiriches and Capoue, as well as the above, though.

Honestly don't think Soldado would suit us. Didn't Valencia used to cross alot during his most prolifif period for them?? I'd love Dembele tho. He has all the attributes to be a very good midfielder imo. Also Chiriches would be an interesting option. Still doubt they would sell to us.

Andros 'shoooooot' Townsend irritates me more than most players in the league.

    Don't want him.

Still think he'd score goals for us. Especially if you have Manquillo and Moreno in the side.
