Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Next week, i see that the XXL brands are in that you get 7 bottles for €7.29,

I'd say that's just as good :)

Snagged 8 of these in East Wall, and they had Bushmills for 20.99 a bockle as well. Already looking forward to tomorrow's mouldy head.

    Cheers BA-ers!

It's a good offer but it's not comparible to franziskaner by a long, long margin. Totally different drinks.

Completely out in Lidl Arklow on Saturday. Devastated. Consoled myself with a few cans of the weiss beer they have (€1.20 a can or something). Not nearly as nice but will do in a pinch. I'll nip in to Lidl Gorey before the deal is over. They are always really well stocked with everything.

1.29 at the moment, have you ever had a weissbier before? If you're a fan of pils I wouldn't get too many. I like a weissbier or dunkel from time to time but I get tired of the the clove in fransiskaner very quickly. Bought way too many the last round in lidl.

Nah, i've only tried the Perlenbacher, but i'll remember that on the fransiskraner!

Balls, was only up there earlier, although on the plus side I couldn't have got them pre 10.30pm either way. My stocks were getting low, time to restock.

I still would love to know whether someone is pocketing a profit, as Frankziskaner can be got on a deal in Germany for €10 for 20 bottles, 50c incl VAT per bottle, 40c approx before taxes (regular price more like €15 per 20bottles).

Obviously on deal it means that theres little profit in it for anyone, but still, it cant be that expensive to ship from Germany to Ireland in a container. Just working it out with the plastic crates, a pallet takes 8crates with 20x500ml bottles in a layer, 5 layers stacked, 36 pallets in a 40ft truck - is 28,800 bottles. With paper boxes it'd be more , but just leave it as it is for now.
A 40 foot container seems to cost in or around €2000 to ship from UK to the continent, so lets be generous and say €3000 from Ireland, so simply 10c per bottle in transport from GER-->IRL.

If you add the 10c transport to 50c beer in Germany (or 40c before VAT), add 56c Irish excise per 500ml 5% beer, add 23% irish VAT to base price of 106c (10c transport, + 40 c beer + 56c excise) and you come out at €1.30 per bottle

Obviously, you probably need to reduce the base price as theres a bit of margin for the retailer in the initial 40c before taxes in Germany, but still, I actually thought Lidl was being a bit sly, but actually €1.25 is as cheap as you'll ever see in Ireland for foreign reasonably strong beer without selling under cost.

    Who cares? It's beer. ;)

It's incredibly cheap, considering the transport, handling etc.

Even in Germany bottles in supermarkets (ones that I've seen anyway) would tend to be in the 60c to 90c price range, although I'd imagine you'd get cheaper in those specialist beer shops where you buy by the crate-load.

Not a huge mark-up by any means. If only they'd get the Dunkel in.

Maybe nenagh is a single store selling them off? As nowhere else seems to have stock.

Anyone seen it in Cork ?

The price rduction label (didn't see the expiry) was on the shelf in Carrick on Suir, there just wasn't any stock

    None in Lidl Cavan

I asked Lidl and this was the response....

"Firstly may we take this opportunity to thank you for your request in connection with a Franziskaner Wheat Beer 5.0%. At present this item is not available in our stores. Furthermore we have no advance information about its proposed sale in the coming months."

Dunnes have been selling this at 5 for 10 euro which may explain why Lidl do not have it available. With the Dunnes 20% off , it works out at 1.60 a bottle. Good value...not as good as 4 for 5 but:D

Only a few left in Lidl on the Johnswell Rd in Kilkenny. Didn't check the one in Smithlands

Castleblayney zero stock, the sign 4 for 5 was in place offer dates 07/11-18/11 ( think it was 18/11) but no stock, the shelve was bunged with tyskie bottles.
Strange for there to be zero stock offer or not, don't give up, always heard "good things come to those who wait".
