So it appears that the businesses were trading without a liquor license and did not renew the licence in September 2013, according to this weeks News & Star. The reasons which can stop a licence from being renewed is if they do not have a Tax Clearance Certificate (supplied if all taxes are in order) or if there are objections. Only one pub decided to have a sit in for their statutory rights plus holiday pay etc. It lasted some 24hrs.

There are a few different types of publican license, if they had a 7 day ordinary publican license it would be based on turnover if I remember properly

anywhere from €550 to €1700 - but all taxes must be up to date before you can get one

You're a man in the know. Would it devalue the pubs that they don't have a licence? Wouldn't that result in the new owners having to buy one elsewhere at a fair whack?
