went into Heat Merchants and Chadwicks and they just shrugged. Can get one online but the kitchen sink is out of commission so I'd like to try and get one today.

I've never replaced one in a tap before (hundreds in showers) so not sure where to point you.
If they are anything like showers then you'll need the make & model of the mixer tap before you go any further.

You could try googling tap parts & hope you find a UK site with something like it.

As Sleeper says, you really need the makers name and model of the tap, a lot of them are very similar in appearance, but they can vary greatly.
Unless you had the new one in your hand to compare them side by side you could be wasting time and money.

cheers - I called the place I bought it from and they're looking into it, but having re-assembled the tap it's not leaking anymore so perhaps it just wasn't seated properly.

Amazon seem to have the part anyway
