Well thats it then ii reckon. I was at the NZ match and got chatting to an english guy who was involved with the u20s set up over there. he said it it would be an England v France Final... Looks like he will be right cause I don't see Canada beating France

    Good try, in fairness.

Horrible way to end what has been a great tournament for Ireland.

There's still the 3rd place match after this

England, a far more powerful team...Ireland are gutsy and that could be the one factor that stops this becoming embarrassing

That's a powerful English team, they've this semi in the bag.

Have Ireland choked though? I don't think England would have expected to win a semi final by a 20 point margin (or more)

would i be right in say the 3rd place get a medal?
I nearly sure there was on in given in Brazil

England seem to be carrying far greater speed & strength into the tackle.
Every attack is bringing them a score/penalty.

Referee doesn't seem to want competition at the breakdown, always siding with the team with the ball.

Yes, the Netherlands won a bronze medal at the World Cup

Incredibly blatant midfield obstruction there. Not that it matters!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,433 ✭✭✭Dave_The_Sheep

High tackles are allowed in this game, yeah? That's twice we've gotten away with it and I'm only catching the second half...

I hate when a team has a great shock result, and then falls flat on its face :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

    Mauling....gutted.

Very disappointing stuff from Ireland : they've outscored us 40-0 in the last 50 minutes....as much to do with us playing really badly as them playing well (they're certainly not going to win the final by that margin, no matter who they play)

Typical with Irish teams though, we get too self-satisfied after one good result

Not sure if this result is down to us just being happy to make the semifinals or England being light years ahead of us

Pretty impressive by England all the same.

As usual we choke in the knockout stages of the RWC.....following in the footsteps of our useless men's teams over the years

    I agree with that.

Usually happens though with underdogs, claim a scalp and then are rubbish.

Easy to do against a team of chokers of course, but they've played well within themselves.

Dammit. Well and truly beaten. OK, go for the bronze medals now.

I certainly do. I remember us going into the RWC quarter final in 2011 in great form and not even competing against the Welsh (we probably should have lost that one by 25 points). And then we had to read a load of rubbish about how we came up against a "wonderful" Welsh side, not that we absolutely bottled it on the day.

Harsh thing to say, if anything that men's team has done more than any other to remove the dreaded "ah sure we'll give it a lash/happy to be here" mentality that has been the scourge of Irish sports for ages

The Irish team have improved massively in fairness, led my Munster's exploits and then Leinsters.

Unlucky better team on the day won top tier teams need to be close to 100% to win in the knock outs

I would agree on that and Joe Schmidt has done a fantastic job. Our record is woeful in the RWC though.....good in the group stages, and then we always seem to be well below par once we get to the knockout rounds (hopefull that changes next year)

I don't really get the impression your ability to break down the game really extends much further than using words like "well" and "badly" to be honest! :pac:

A real shame the game went the way it did. The English pack are just so quick to the ball and the girls just couldn't make any impact on the ground. The backs really can't do anything without that, and they weren't really set up to mitigate that sort of problem either, it made such a huge difference and we had no answer for it. Hopefully they can find an answer before the 6 Nations and we can get some revenge against these English girls next Spring.

Fair play to England, they could really go on and win. Thanks to our girls for being so brilliant throughout the tournament and making us proud.

    I wouldn't say we're good in the group stages. Remember 2007 :o

An annihilation....let's not patronize these girls with "they did their best/great effort/so proud" etc. The only reaction should be, let's remember how bad this feels, let's aim for the standard set by England, learn from it, that was nowhere near good enough but let's win 3rd place and put in an improved performance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

Thought we were poor on the wings defensivly. Wingers pointing to the centre to take the inside player on a 2 v2 then not trusting that they'll make the tackle and staying far too close giving the English winger a head start and space to go around the outside instead of starting in line with them.

Very disappointing but great experience and a fantastic boost for the women's game by making the semi-final.

Spot on. Need to develop a ruthless streak. Media blows them up of course, probably didn't even know the tournament was on before the NZ shock.

The difference between how quickly the English forwards reacted to things compared to our forwards was noticeable. Their openside in particular was a beast. Fantastic body position when poaching, but her speed to the ball was top class too. If she hadn't been playing us it would have been a joy to watch.

that was dire - England were good , game too far for Ireland - honestly, thought skill level was pretty poor , commitment 100 % on both sided , bit too bosh bosh for my liking

Eh they've achieved more than ANY other senior Irish rugby team ever by getting to the semis?

in 1991 when England women won the RWC, I'm not even sure we had a national team competing in test matches.

Maybe we are a little harsh, just annoyed at giving England basically a bye into the final.
