i think they would be mad not to take williams - imagine mack over his shoulder - olinemen and qbs would be ruined!!

To be honest nasty_crash I cant see him being on the board by no.4 but, stranger things have happened!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,369 ✭✭✭UnitedIrishman

there is a rumour out there that if a certain player is not there for the green bay pick (possibly mychals brother eric) then the pacers will give there first and third for kendricks and the eagles second. the main reason I'm slow to believe it is that the pacers are the ultimate develop there own guys in house team right now (i.e. that julius peppers being the only non home grown player thing)

I'm hoping this happens now. Not particularly all that psyched about our potential options at the position we are at. LB is our biggest need and given we are in win now mode rather than having to sit a guy to learn, he'd fit nicely.

lad on nfl network just said multiple front office sources round the league have told him that they dont think the titans will trade the number two overall because the price there asking for is to hefty

The question is then... do they pick mariota?

Is cos he is from florida - plays college football for florida - and he is a jags fan - and has openly said that he thinks that jags will take him! If the 2 qbs are taken 1-2 not entirely impossible - then williams will be at 4.....

God this is the longest day in work haha

starting to look like it by all accounts. could be a pick him and trade him type thing but if the price is that high they must be.

also iv seen a few reports that the browns feel they can get sam bradford before the draft thats a strange one not sure how much i believe it

it doesn't make sense to me. If they draft him to trade his value will immediately drop, a little granted but it will still drop. Why don't they just make a reasonable deal now and make the draft picks they want. They don't need a qb.

ya i have an assignment due tomorrow and i knew i had to have it more or less done yesterday because there was deck all happening today

every team seems to want to trade back who do you think teams would trade up for though there has to be someone that loves one of the receivers or something.

all crap aside i would looooooove if somehow (and it won't happen) the jets got williams that line would be incredible

makes no sense to me either it was said at the time that the browns offered the number 19 overall to the rams and then to the eager for him when the trade happened but I'm not sure how they come out of this with him

Adrian Carter on AP situation at the Vikings:

"I'm under a gag order on the Adrian Peterson situation. But I believe something's gonna happen. But I can't talk about it"

He's being gagged, something might happen, at least he believes it is but he can't say.

    Conclusive.

I still think he's playing in purple come the start of the season. Too old, salary too high.

Arizona may have something to say about that - they are actively talking with vikes - but i fully expect ap to stay where he is

Interesting.... Dan Quinn is probably on the phone to Carroll as i type this! Falcons would do worse that trade a second round pick and maybe a 4th or 5th for irvins!

Bob McGinn's mock draft has been released. McGinn has consistently ranked as one of the top five mockers around over the last number of years in terms of correct selections:

    http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/bob-mcginns-first-round-nfl-mock-draft-b99490465z1-301778881.html
    1. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State

When the Journal Sentinel surveyed 19 NFL personnel executives this month regarding the best player in the draft, six players received votes, and Winston wasn't one of them. Coach Lovie Smith and GM Jason Licht hitch their wagon to this controversial third-year sophomore.

    2. TENNESSEE TITANS: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

Looking to trade out and gain additional choices for the reclamation project ahead, the Titans will have opportunities to deal. Can Eagles coach-GM Chip Kelly get up this high? Others certainly can and probably will.

    3. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: Leonard Williams, DE, Southern California

The Jaguars nab the scouts' runaway choice as the best player in the Journal Sentinel poll. Nicknamed "Big Cat," Williams drew 10 votes to four for runner-up Amari Cooper.

    4. OAKLAND RAIDERS: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

The Raiders drafted OLB Khalil Mack No. 5 a year ago. This time, they take the wide receiver. There's not much separating Cooper from Kevin White.

    5. WASHINGTON REDSKINS: Dante Fowler, OLB, Florida

Fowler is the type of powerful, relentless player with whom first-year GM Scot McCloughan hopes to rebuild in old D.C.

    6. NEW YORK JETS: Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson

New GM Mike Maccagnan, new coach Todd Bowles (one of Ron Wolf's college area scouts in Green Bay for seven months in 1996) seize a pass rusher when Mariota doesn't drop to them.

    7. CHICAGO BEARS: Kevin White, WR, West Virginia

The Bears liked Randy Gregory more than any other pass-rushing OLB to fit their brand-spanking new 3-4 defense. Gregory's alarming off-field résumé prompts the switch to offense.

    8. ATLANTA FALCONS: Bud Dupree, OLB, Kentucky

The Falcons shy away from both Gregory and pass rusher Shane Ray (turf toe, marijuana possession citation Monday) to take a safer albeit less impressive fit for new coach Dan Quinn's defense.

    9. NEW YORK GIANTS: Brandon Scherff, G-T, Iowa

The Giants would love to see Beasley slip here. RB Melvin Gordon is a very real possibility, too. Settle for Scherff, a clear-cut choice in the Journal Sentinel poll as the No. 1 offensive lineman.

    10. ST. LOUIS RAMS: Andrus Peat, T, Stanford

The Rams have all the defensive linemen they could possibly need. Peat will require more upper-body strength, and with it should come a more hostile approach. He'll join T-G Greg Robinson (No. 2 pick, 2014) as mainstays for a resurgent O-line.

    11. MINNESOTA VIKINGS: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State

GM Rick Spielman ruminates over the selection of WR DeVante Parker only to provide CB Xavier Rhodes (No. 25, 2013) with another 6-foot coverage partner outside.

    12. CLEVELAND BROWNS: Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska

Gregory was voted the best pass rusher in the draft by a 10-5 margin over Beasley. Gregory's free fall ends here, provided the Browns don't nab Shelton first and take Gregory at 19.

    13. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: Danny Shelton, NT, Washington

Last season, coach Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis fielded the No. 1-ranked offense and the No. 31-ranked defense (No. 29 against the run). The Saints just got a whole lot bigger.

    14. MIAMI DOLPHINS: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

A lot of teams admire Gurley, especially the Jets at No. 6. That's too high for a player coming off ACL surgery Nov. 25. The risk-reward seems about right for the Dolphins here.

    15. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon

The 49ers cut LE Ray McDonald and are hoping to one final season from RE Justin Smith. With ILB Patrick Willis retired, GM Trent Baalke drafts a classic 5-technique for new coach Jim Tomsula's 3-4.

    16. HOUSTON TEXANS: DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville

GM Rick Smith said goodbye to the great Andre Johnson and then signed UFAs Cecil Shorts (Jaguars) and Nate Washington (Titans). He needs a real receiver, and Parker is that.

    17. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS: Ereck Flowers, T, Miami

Could the Chargers jump on Gordon? Without a doubt. But they've also had O-line needs for years. With Flowers at RT, athletically overmatched D.J. Fluker can move to guard.

    18. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: Cedric Ogbuehi, T, Texas A&M

The Chiefs lost Rodney Hudson to Oakland in March and have untested Eric Kush atop the depth chart at center. Tackle, however, might be an even more pressing need.

    19. CLEVELAND BROWNS-a: Nelson Agholor, WR, Southern California

Former Chief Dwayne Bowe maybe can get the Browns by on the outside for a year. Agholor is a sleek, fundamentally sound slot receiver who would mesh beautifully inside of Josh Gordon if the troubled one can make it back from a yearlong suspension,

    20. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: Damarious Randall, S, Arizona State

In the past, the Eagles and Chip Kelly have drafted from the list of players that visited Philly before the draft. That list this year included Jaelen Strong, Byron Jones, Eric Rowe, Agholor and Randall. The Eagles say they won't take any character risks.

    21. CINCINNATI BENGALS: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma

Ogbuehi would have been a perfect fit. Green-Beckham is off some boards for an assortment of behavioral issues. Owner Mike Brown, coach Marvin Lewis take a gamble on greatness.

    22. PITTSBURGH STEELERS: Landon Collins, S, Alabama

For the first time since 2004 the Steelers won't have Troy Polamalu at strong safety. Collins played too heavy last season and has flaws in coverage. What he can do is whack ball carriers in old-fashioned Steelers' style.

    23. DETROIT LIONS: Malcom Brown, DT, Texas

DTs Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley are gone, leaving GM Martin Mayhew with former Raven Haloti Ngata, 31, and little else inside. Brown might be the draft's second-best interior rusher behind Leonard Williams and fits a 4-3 better than a 3-4.

    24. ARIZONA CARDINALS: Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin

It has to be a no-brainer if the irrepressible Badger still is on the board. GM Steve Keim can't go on with Andre Ellington, Kerwynn Williams and Stepfan Taylor toting the leather for coach Bruce Arians.

    25. CAROLINA PANTHERS: D.J. Humphries, T, Florida

GM Dave Gettleman's LTs are Nate Chandler and Jonathan Martin, and newcomer Michael Oher is penciled in at RT. Humphries has the feet to start quickly on the left side.

    26. BALTIMORE RAVENS: Marcus Peters, CB, Washington

In 2011, the Ravens used the No. 27 choice on CB Jimmy Smith, a player regarded as perhaps even more of a character risk than Peters. Smith has been a model citizen in Baltimore. The Ravens think they can do it again.

    27. DALLAS COWBOYS: Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest

If Johnson, the scouts' choice as the No. 2 cornerback in the draft, falls this far, he probably won't get past Dallas. If he's off the board, the Cowboys will consider ILBs Benardrick McKinney and Eric Kendricks.

    28. DENVER BRONCOS: Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri

New D-coordinator Wade Phillips is back in Denver reinstalling his version of the 3-4. Von Miller is the truth on the left outside, but how much longer can DeMarcus Ware play effectively? He'll be 33 in July.

    29. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: Cameron Erving, C, Florida State

The Colts had a revolving door at center last year; Andrew Luck deserves better. Erving, who at 6-5½ becomes the NFL's tallest center, is good enough to approach Jeff Saturday's longevity records.

    30. BALTIMORE RAVENS-b: Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida

In a projected trade, Green Bay GM Ted Thompson answers the entreaties from teams looking to move up for Perriman and other players. If it's Baltimore, the Packers would move down to the Ravens' second-round pick (No. 58) and probably pick up their first-round pick choice in 2016.

    31. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS-c: Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor

The Saints worked out Petty in the last week and regard him as the best pure passer in the draft. Drew Brees, 36, will enter his 15th season. Petty has time to learn how to make reads and play from under center without having to play. TE-WR Devin Funchess is a fit, too.

    32. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State

Might the Patriots choose Duke G Laken Tomlinson 10 years after making the surprising choice of G Logan Mankins at No. 32? It could happen. Terry Glenn was the Patriots' last first-round WR. The year was 1996.

a — From Buffalo in May 9, 2014, trade in which the Bills traded up for WR Sammy Watkins.

b — From Green Bay in projected trade for picks.

c — From Seattle in March 10 trade in which the Seahawks acquired TE Jimmy Graham.

Can't see that Baltimore trade happening at all.

Final mock below, though one change - I'm giving the Saints Breshad Perriman and saying La'el Collins will slip out of the first now due to today's latest.

Popping out for a while now and when I get back it'll be time to avoid social media etc as the usual suspects will be up to their "look at me" craic, so I'll catch you all on the no spoilers thread tonight. :)

NFL Network already have their Draft coverage on air right now. I am looking forward to it but 7 hours of pre-draft coverage is an awful lot.

Not like anybody's making me watch it of course. ;)

Interesting request by La’El Collins to be in the Supplemental Draft. Sources are very pessimistic. Would set a bad precedent.

Ali Marpet from that powerhouse Hobart is aiming to be the first Division III player drafted since 2012.

In 2012 the Lions spent a 5th rounder on defensive back Chris Greenwood and he is now on tbe Ravens practice squad.

In 2011 Cecil Shorts was drafted and he has had a fine career and got a deserved free agency payday.

Only other player of note in recent years was Pierre Garçon in 2008.

Fred Jackson is a Division III player who has done well, he was undrafted so doesn't get on the list

Ah yes, Chris Greenwood. I remember there was talk of developing him to be a decent corner, but nagging injuries year after year put pay to that idea.
Didn't realise he was actually still in the league.
