Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The problem is cork footballers have always underachieved relative to the expectations of the cork football public.cork have the biggest football pick outside of dublin yet there winnings are small mainly because kerry have been able to beat us even with poorer team's and trust me there is nothing worse than leaving a match with smug kerrymen.add the fact that the hurling strong hold is city east and and football city west which also is probaly not as wealthy as the eastern side.

Agree with that. When you have one sucessful side in cork hurling on one side and kerry football on the other it's hard for a large and quite demanding county like cork to get fully behind their senior team. If Kerry werent the football county they were it may be different.

The east is closer to croke park and being in hurling territory a lot closer to places like Thurles, Limerick, etc. When cork hurling goes well it's a lot easier to get behind the team.

The bizarre thing is though there is a lot more interest in Cork football at nearly all levels than people think. The southside of Cork City has 5/6 serious football clubs and the likes of Glanmire, Ballincollig and Carrigaline has a lot of numbers at underage coming through.

Historically Cork hurlers were way ahead of Cork football at senior level but since Cork won the All Ireland Hurling Final in 1986 that gap has closed.Cork have won 4 hurling all irelands and Football has won 3.Before that it was 27 to 4 in favour of Hurling.Cork hurling hasnt been as strong since maybe but the gap in terms of all ireland titles has never been closer.

One could also say that gaelic games are not the be all and end all of sport in Cork county.
Road bowling, is a huge sport for young men in West Cork, as are many equestrian sports from Trotting, Harness racing, Show Jumping etc.
BUT....the biggest hindrance to success at senior intercounty level is the dual issue. The majority of clubs play both codes and of necessity their best players are needed by both teams.
Everybody is happy with this and winning All Irelands is not the priority it is in Kerry and Kilkenny where clubs and young men play just the one code from birth.
Cork will never change from this as the games are treated as sport generally by the County Board executives and they will never go down the professional route needed for All Ireland senior success these days.
Dublin, Mayo, Kerry and Ulster teams will dominate football like they have done for the past 10/15 years while Kilkenny will of course dominate hurling as they alone specialise.

Cork produces a constant stream of brilliant footballers, so there must be alot of people in the county who love football-Im just surprised more of them dont travel to support their team. Over and out.

Because they are frustrating to watch and are bottlers when they play Kerry and could lose to a Junior C team on a bad day. Cork hurling is a joy to watch in comparison.
