Doing a speed test with no phones connected we get 800 kbps download speed and 100 kbps upload speed approx. but as soon as we plug in a phone, into any of the sockets around the house, the internet drops out.

We thought it might be the sockets so put connectors in the sockets not being used and replaced three sockets.  We bought a new phone, in case this was the problem, but it is still happening.

Can anyone shed any light on what might be the issue, how we could find out what the problem is and how to rectify it.

    Thank you.

    Hi boarduser01

This is a sure sign of the phone connection causing interference. The level of interference this can create would certainly be causing the slower speeds and random connection issues. Interference is created by the way the modem and phone are connected or even possible faulty equipment.
From what you have detailed in your post it clearly shows the issues are a result of the current set up you have.

The following information contains in the link below will guide you on how to resolve this interference yourself if you want to give it a try?

    Thank you for your reply

Can you help with a couple of extra questions:

    1) With no other wiring connected for around the house, and no phone plugged into the main socket, our internet speed is 850mbps, this drops to 800mbps when the new phone is plugged into the master eircom socket.  Is this normal?

    2) We then added a new socket to the main eircom socket with just 4 inches of wiring, with a new phone, when the phone is plugged in, then the internet drops out.  What could cause this?

Background, we have had the eircom engineers out a few months back and they fitted a filtered socket, and disconnected all our internal phone wiring as they were saying that it was shorting out the internet.  But we have checked all the sockets etc now and we are trying to work out what needs doing next.  We are totally baffled by the new phone socket only so short a distance away being able to drop out the internet......

    Hi boarduser01
You will have to give our Broadband technical support team a call on 1890260260 and have them troubleshoot this with you. They may have to send tech back out on this one.

Thank you Tony, I am reluctant to call the broadband support team, as the last tech who came out said it had to be our wiring, hence why he disconnected it for us, and that if we got another call out we would be charged for the call out, as he had done everything up to point of socket.  But we can't carry on with this situation, which has everyone here baffled!  Thank you for getting back to me.

Ok boarduser01, if you PM me your line number I can have a look at tech notes, maybe get some extra info for you. I can't promise but can try. Tony
